Obituaries for May 7, 2009


Annie Belle Levasser

Funeral services for Annie Bell Levasser, 93, of Frankston, are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Thursday, May 7, at Autry Funeral Home Chapel in Frankston with the Rev. Darrin Wood officiating.


Burial will follow at Frankston City Cemetery.


Mrs. Levasser passed away Tuesday, May 5, 2009 in Tyler.


She was born December 30, 1915 in Frankston to Pleas Askew and Una Mae Cook Askew.


Mrs. Levasser was a member of First Baptist Church, Frankston and was a homemaker.


She is preceded in death by her husband J. C. Levasser and daughter Linda Levasser.


Survivors include sons-in-law, Richard Tate of Houston and Don Burr of St. Louis, Mo.; sister-in-law, Marie Askew of Portland, Oregon.; grandchildren, Eric Anthony Burr and Kirsten Camille Burr; great grandson Andrew Clark Burr; and several nieces and nephews.


Pallbearers will be Johnny Burks, Johnny Coffman, Travis King, Don Levasser, Mike Richards, and Johnny Wofford.


The family will receive friends from noon on Thursday, May 7, 2009 until service time at Autry Funeral Home in Frankston.




Orie Jeff Stewart

Orie Jeff Stewart, 92, of Madisonville, passed away in Frankston on Friday, May 1, 2009.


Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 5, at Bedias Baptist Church.


The Rev. Jerald Brown officiated.


Burial followed in Park Cemetery near Madisonville under direction of Madisonville Funeral Home.


Mr. Stewart was born on August 28, 1916 in the Pee Dee Community in Madison County to Jeff and Donnie (Townley) Stewart.


He lived in Hitchcock from 1949 to 1970 then moved to Texas City and worked 25 years for Union Carbide Chemical Company as a chief operator.


Mr. Stewart moved back to Madisonville to the Pee Dee Community after retiring. He enjoyed working with his livestock and gardening. He was a member of the Madisonville Masonic Lodge and the Order of the Eastern Star. Mr. Stewart was a member of Bedias Baptist Church in Bedias.


He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Earlene Stewart; brothers, Pete and Clifford Stewart and sisters, Beulah Thompson, Fannie McAdams and Nora Park.


Survivors include his three sons and daughters-in-law, Orville and Sonya Stewart of Dayton, Rick and Nancy Stewart of Frankston, formerly of Bryan, Tim Stewart of Alvin; daughter, Carolyn McGaughey of Oskaloosa, Iowa; 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.




Iris Abendroth

Funeral services for Iris L. Abendroth, 84, of Poynor. were scheduled for Tuesday, May 5, at Poynor Baptist Church.


Burial followed at Poynor Cemetery.


Services were under the direction of Autry Funeral Home in Frankston.


Mrs. Abendroth passed away Friday, May 1, 2009 in Tyler.


She was born Nov. 4, 1924 in Pasadena to Helge Gigstead and Lydia Zlomke Gigstead.


Mrs. Abendroth was a sales representative for Avon and a hospital volunteer for more than 20 years.


She was preceded in death by her husband Augustus Paul Abendroth, five brothers and two sisters.


Survivors include her sons, Murray Abendroth of LaRue, Mark Abendroth and Carl Abendroth, both of Palestine, Robert Abendroth of Spring, and Frank Abendroth of Bullard; daughters, Linda Elliot of Houston, Kris Ryan of Denver, Cinda Siegel of Tomball and Sandra Abendroth of Poynor; 31 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Shelley Burks White

Shelley Burks White, 43, of Dallas, passed away at Baylor Hospital Dallas on Monday, May 11, 2009.


A memorial service is scheduled for 3:30 p.m., Thursday, May 14, 2009 at Wilshire Baptist Church, 4316 Abrams Road Dallas, Texas 75214 with Dr. George Mason officiating.


Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 16, at Frankston City Cemetery with Dr. Darin Wood and the Rev. Grover Talbert officiating.


Shelley was born May 6, 1966, to Johnny and Judy Burks of Frankston. She was as member of Wilshire Baptist Church in Dallas.


Survivors include her husband, Greg White; daughter, Alyssa Ann White; son, Reed Burks White of Dallas; parents, Johnny and Judy Burks of Frankston; sisters, Susan Beard and husband, Kevin Beard of Frankston and Stephanie Brink and husband, Mac Brink of Dallas; and grandmother, Alma Wofford of Frankston.


Friends may visit the family Friday, May 15, from 6 to 8 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Frankston.

Jack Wagner

Memorial services for Jack Wilbur Wagner, 71, Frankston, were held Saturday, May 9, at Hilliard Funeral Home.


Mr. Wagner died May 5, 2009 in Tyler.


He was born June 29, 1937 in Lewistown, Pa. to the late Isaac and Cora Mae Wagner.


He served in the US Navy and worked for Continental Battery. He was preceded in death by brothers, Roy Wagner, John Wagner and Banks Wagner; and sister, Jean Charles.


Survivors include wife of 49 1⁄2 years, Linda K. Wagner of Frankston; son, Joel Pintor; two daughters, Kim Landers and Penny Hayden; four grandchildren, Michelle Ford, Stephanie Anderson, Sarah Farwell, and Christian Jack Hayden; and five great-grandchildren, Aydan Anderson, Alyjah Anderson, Lily Anderson, Bryce Ford and Bailey Ford.

Bill Collins

Graveside services for William (Bill) G. Collins, 76, of Tyler were scheduled to be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 20, at the Tyler Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. James Matthews officiating. Services are under the direction of Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Directors in Tyler.

Mr. Collins went to be with his Lord and Savior on May 17, 2009.

He was born December 15, 1932 in Tyler. He has lived in Tyler most of his life and retired from the U.S .Postal Service as a carrier. He has lived in Atlanta, Mesquite, Rhode Island and Boston where he served in the U.S. Navy.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Anne Yarrell Collins; one grandchild; daughter, Mary Kathleen Collins; brother, Herman M. Collins, Jr.; parents, Herman M. Collins and Mary Elizabeth Collins Turner.

He is survived by a son, Kyle W. Collins of Tyler; daughters, Cherylyn D. Lade of Frankston, Lisa Estep of Alta Loma, Calif., Elizabeth Anne Collins of Kilgore; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Joe McMillan

Graveside services for Joe Allen McMillan, 95, of Oakwood were held Monday, May 18, at Frankston City Cemetery with the Rev. Michael Griffin officiating.

Arrangements were under the direction of Bailey and Foster Funeral Home in Palestine.

Mr. McMillan died Thursday, May 14, at his residence.

He was born Sept. 30, 1913 in Paris, Texas to Jerry Allen and Maggie Walker McMillan.

Mr. McMillan was a car salesman and worked for San Jacinto Motor Company.

He was a member of the Church of Christ.

Mr. McMillan was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Isabell McMillan, four sisters, Betty Galloway, Margaret Smith, Tina Mae Nolen, and Vera Belle Robison; two brothers, John Henry McMillan and William Roy McMillan.

He is survived by his son, Billy Joe McMillan and wife Sue of Oakwood; and a grandson, Michael Wayne McMillan of Oakwood.

Obituaries for May 28, 2009


Ruby Birdwell Thornton

Services for Ruby Birdwell Thornton, 90, a resident of Chandler and a native of Brushy Creek, were held Friday, May 22, 2009, at First Assembly of God Church in Chandler with Pastor Mickey Ellis officiating.


Burial was in Olive Branch Cemetery near Brushy Creek under the direction of Chandler Memorial Funeral Home.


Mrs. Thornton died May 20 in Tyler. She was born Jan. 7, 1919, in Brushy Creek in Anderson County.


She lived in the Chandler area for about 17 years. She was a homemaker and seamstress and was a member of First Assembly of God Church in Chandler.


She was preceded in death by her husband, Mayford Edward Thornton; sisters Ella Mae Weeks and Ann Wallace; and grandsons Daniel Wayne Thornton and Daniel Scott Hefner.


Survivors include son, Randall Thornton and wife Sherian of Lindale; daughters Carolyn Sisson of Chandler, Reba Luna of Pittsburg, Janell Larson and husband Barry of Pittsburg; brother, John Birdwell of Flippin, Ark.; sisters Ellen Loyless of Tyler and Ruth Dearing of Brushy Creek;10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren.


Pallbearers were Randy Thornton, Kevin Thornton, Casey Joe Hefner, Barry Larson, Todd Sisson and Grant Griggs.
