MARKET AND TRADE AREA
The greater Frankston area, with a population in excess of 3,000, is located in the heart of East Texas forest trails, equidistant from Tyler, Jacksonville, Athens and Palestine. It borders four counties. The economy is based primarily on recreational income derived from Lake Palestine as well as income from retired persons, livestock and hay production, forest products, oil and gas and jobs, including state correctional facilities, in the nearby larger cities. Local income sources are schools, Frankston Paper Box factory and retail and service businesses. International Paper Co. operates a pine seedling farm east of Lake Palestine and numerous large ranches dot the area. Residents are served by doctors and health care facilities in the area and in medical centers in the nearby larger cities, principally Tyler. They shop for merchandise and services not available locally in these cities and attend colleges and universities there. Also they visit these cities for movies and other entertainment, cultural and sports events. Climate is temperate with average annual rainfall of 40 inches.
