June 1 Edition

Suzanne Akins

Funeral services for Suzanne Marie Akins, 30, of Gladewater were held Monday, May 15 at Croley Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Ron Ivey officiating under direction of Croley Funeral Home, Gladewater. Burial was in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Hugo, Oklahoma.

Mrs. Akins passed away Thursday, May 11 after a hard battle with melanoma cancer.

She was born June 18, 1975 in Longview. She was employed with Haverty’s Furniture in Tyler.

Mrs. Akins was preceded in death by a son, William Madison Akins in 1999.

Her husband remembers her as someone who “definitely made
this world a better place. She said once that this was a winwin situation.

“If she beat the cancer, she got to stay here. If not, she got to go be with our son,” he said. He then added, “you can now rest, baby. Go be with our son.”

Survivors include her husband Jeff Akins of Gladewater; daughter Brianna Akins of Tyler; parents John William Shearer III of Gladewater and Jo Frances of Denison; brother and sister-in-law David Lynn and Angie Shearer of Gladewater; sister and brother-in-law LaWanda and Darin Olsen of Rockwall; father-in law and mother-in-law Bill and Juanite Akins of Frankston; two nieces and two nephews.

Pallbearers were Michael Williams, Jeff Akins, Bill Akins, Jesus Longorra, David Shearer and Glenn Shearer.


Elton 'Bud' Jones

Funeral services for Elton “Bud” Jones, 78, of Frankston were held Sunday, May 28 at Frankston Assembly of God with Rev. J.A. Griffin officiating under direction of Thompson Funeral Home, Frankston. The burial was in Wofford Cemetery.

Mr. Jones passed away Thursday, May 25.

He was born January 18, 1928 in Frankston. He was a farmer, a member of Assembly of God Church and a deacon for over 40 years.

Survivors include his wife Lillian Ruth Jones of Frankston; daughter and son-in-law Freida Ruth and Richard Bussey of Missouri City; grandson Brent Bussey of Manchester, New Hampshire and granddaughter Stacy Bussey of St. Louis Park, Minnesota.

Pallbearers were Harold Henderson, William Walker, Elmer Welch, Lanny Medlin, Larry Sexton and C.R. House.


Wayne Landis, Sr.

Funeral services for Wayne Landis, Sr., 72, of Frankston were held Tuesday, May 30 at DFW National Cemetery with Rev. Kenneth Antley officiating under direction of Thompson Funeral Home, Frankston.

Mr. Landis passed away Saturday, May 20.

He was born January 20, 1934 in Omaha, Nebraska. He was retired from the U.S. Navy.

Survivors include son and daughter-in-law Wayne, Jr.; Heather Landis of Frankston, and half brother and sisterin-law Garrie and Cheryle Bickford of Nebraska.


Omellia Levassar

Memorial services for Omellia Levassar, 64, of Tyler were held for Tuesday, May 30 at Thompson Funeral Home chapel with Rev. J.A. Griffin officiating under direction of Thompson Funeral Home, Frankston.

Ms. Levassar passed away Friday, May 26.

She was born June 18, 1941 in Frankston. She was a bookkeeper for Maddox Air Conditioning and a member of First Baptist Church, Frankston.

She was preceded in death by her parents Walter Burtis and Lillie Bell Levassar, brother Harold Levassar, sisters Mary Wilbanks and Lloyce Rae Cash and her cat, Bandit, who was her lifelong friend.

Survivors include special friend Shirley Rhame of Whitehouse; brother Sarl Levassar of Amarillo; sister Betty Joyce Miller of Frankston; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Honorary pallbearers were Sarl Gene Levassar, Michael Lynn Levassar, Greg Levassar, Jason Levassar, John Curtis Meredith and all of her Maddox Family.


Margie Roberts Loden

Graveside services for Margie Roberts Loden, 70, of Jacksonville were held Saturday, May 27 at Jacksonville Old City Cemetery with Al Parr officiating under direction of Thompson Funeral Home, Jacksonville.

Mrs. Loden passed away Wednesday, May 24.

She was born in Anderson County on November 15, 1935 to Henry and Lida Roberts. She was a member of Corinth Road Church of Christ and a retired LVN.

Mrs. Loden was preceded in death by her husband of 25 years Lawrence T. Loden, her parents and seven brothers and sisters.

Survivors include brother-in-law Roy Lehmberg of Mason; 11 nieces and nephews and many cousins.

Bruce Gatlin

Funeral services for Bruce Gatlin, 46, of Frankston were held Saturday, June 3 at Hilltop Baptist Church with Ron Ivey officiating under direction of Thompson Funeral Home, Frankston.
Burial was in Garden Oaks Cemetery in Berryville.

Mr. Gatlin passed away Thursday, June 1.

He was born December 21, 1959. He was a pipe fitter for Tyler Steel for 13 years and a member of Hilltop Baptist Church.

Mr. Gatlin was preceded in death by his father, William Hunter Gatlin.

Survivors include mother Jo Ann Gatlin of Frankston; sons Shayne Gatlin of Austin and Timothy Gatlin of Deer Park; sisters and brothers-in-law Sharon and Garry Chinnis of Crosby, Vickie and Allen Hartman of Deer Park, and Diane Harvick of Frankston; one grandson, two step-grandsons, and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Anthony Mize, J.D. Mize, Shaun Schexnider, Steven Mize, Zachary Schexnider and Coy Randle.


John Laughlin

Graveside services for John Young Laughlin, 64, of Frankston were held Tuesday, June 6 at Liberty Hill Cemetery with Rev. Ron Ivey officiating under direction of Thompson Funeral Home, Frankston.

He passed away Wednesday, May 31.

Mr. Laughlin was born Feb. 10, 1942 in Port Arthur.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Sharon, and daughter Shon Marie Laughlin.

Survivors include son John Laughlin, Jr. of Guam; daughter Sharronn Goar of Jacksonville; brother and sisters-in-law Donald and Christine Laughlin of Nederland, and Anna Mae Laughlin of Lake Charles, Louisiana; sisters and brothers-in-law Joan Benchoff of Austin, Elaine and Ray Rials of Lake Charles, and Patricia and John Byous of Buda; and two grandchildren.


Lynda Tosh

Funeral services for Lynda Tosh, 62, of Rusk were held Thursday, June 1 at First Baptist Church in Rusk with Rev. Lee Welch, Rev. Don Copeland and Rev. Billy D. Garner officiating under direction of Autry Funeral Home, Jacksonville. Burial was in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Rusk.

Mrs. Tosh passed away Monday, May 29.

She was born December 20, 1943 in Paris, Texas. She was secretary for JoEd Anderson Realtors. She was a Baptist and a member of Mary Martha Sunday School Class, Rusk.

Survivors include husband Bill Tosh of Rusk; son and daughter-in-law Pat and Christy Tosh of Tyler; daughters and sons-in-law Shelley and Rodney Norman of Rusk, and Nikki and Buddy Scales of Tyler; parents John and Jean Matlock; brother and sister-in-law Jerry and Terry Matlock of Spring;
sister and brother-in-law Betty and Lewis Clakley of Frankston; six grandchildren and four step-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Joe Dan Moake, Bobby Tosh, Billy D. Garner, James Shirley, Shannon Clakley and Michael Matlock.

Honorary pallbearers were Robert E. Lee, Spencer Guimarin, Sam Florian, JoEd Anderson and John Waddell.

Clyde Brumley

Funeral services for Clyde Don Brumley, 63, of Berryville were held Monday, June 12 at Thompson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. J.A. Griffin officiating under direction of Thompson Funeral Home, Frankston. Burial was in Garden Oaks Memorial Park, Berryville.

Mr. Brumley passed away Friday, June 9.

He was born November 14, 1942 in Sulphur Springs. He was a retired truck driver.

Mr. Brumley was preceded in death by his mother Martha Oneta Brumley, and brothers James Brumley and Jerry Brumley.

Survivors include his wife Mary Brumley of Berryville; sons and daughter-in-law Tim and Sherry Brumley of Frankston, and Kenneth Brumley of Berryville; his father Clyde E. Brumley of Irving; brothers Jerome Brumley of Irving and Tim Brumley of Red Oak; grandchildren Keri Brumley, Rachel Brumley, Rayne Brumley and T.J. Brumley; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were John Hopkins, Glen Wilson, Michael Martin, Mark Perez, Danny Hood and Michael Hopkins.

Honorary pallbearers were Pete Toler and Marcus Hood.

Geneva Ellis

Graveside services for Geneva Ellis, 91, of Houston were held Saturday, June 24 at Frankston City Cemetery with Rev. J.A. Griffin officiating under direction of Thompson Funeral Home, Frankston.

Mrs. Ellis passed away Thursday, June 22.

She was born August 25, 1914 in Hollywood, Texas.


Becky Johns

Funeral services for Becky Johns, 55, of Jacksonville were held Wednesday, June 28 at Autry Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Keith January officiating under direction of Autry Funeral Home, Jacksonville. Burial was in Union Grove Cemetery.

Ms. Johns passed away Sunday, June 25.

She was born August 18, 1950 in Hot Springs, Arkansas. Ms. Johns was employed by Goodyear Tire Co. for ten years. She was a Baptist.

She was preceded in death by her father Woodrow Lloyd, a brother Donald Lloyd and a sister Dianne Mueller.

Survivors include her mother Ruby Lee Lloyd of Jacksonville; daughter and son-in-law Amy and Michael Slack of Frisco; and brothers Ronald Lloyd and Jimmy Lloyd, both of Jacksonville.

Pallbearers were Mike Forzano, Tommy Benson, Cleatus Hopson, Rodger Kinney, James Taylor and Charles Nevill.

Honorary pallbearer was Sam Stanley.


Virginia Walding

Funeral services for Virginia Bozeman Walding, 83, of Baton Rouge and formerly of Palestine were held Monday, June 26 with Rev. Jay Abernathy officiating under direction of Bailey and Foster Funeral Home, Palestine. Burial was in Frankston City Cemetery.

Mrs. Walding passed away Thursday, June 22.

She was born December 2, 1922 in Palestine to James Bozeman and Ruth Hughes Bozeman. Mrs. Walding was a Baptist and a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband Jack P. Walding who died in 1983.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law Deborah Walding and Tiger Drake of Baton Rouge; son and daughter-in-law J. Craig and Dina Walding of Houston; and grandchildren Danny Minter of Lanoka, New Jersey, Jared, Devan and Joel Walding all of Nova Scotia, Canada, and Maria Walding of Houston.

Pallbearers were Danny Minter, Jared Walding, Devan Walding, Joel Walding, Tiger Drake and Craig Walding.


Bobbie “Bue” Donnell

Funeral services for Bobbie “Bue” Donnell, 66, of Frankston were held Saturday, June 17 at Pine Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Lonnie Ross officiating under direction of John R. Harmon Undertaking Co., Tyler. Burial was in Pine Springs Cemetery.

Mrs. Donnell passed away Monday, June 12.

She was born January 2, 1939 in Frankston. Mrs. Donnell was a resident of Anderson County for over 50 years. She attended Dunbar High School in Lubbock and Odessa Beauty School. She was a custodian for Frankston ISD and also a beautician. She was a member of Pine Springs Baptist Church and president of the usher board.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, one sister and one daughter.

Survivors include her husband J.B. Donnell of Frankston; sons Bobby Ross of Hale Center, Jimmy Donnell and Danny Donnell both of Frankston; daughters Evelyn Carter of Arlington, Johnnie Alexander of Tennessee Colony, Rena Clark, Linda Eldridge and Sherri Hambrick all of LaRue, Darlene Bell, Pamela Ross and Beverly Rainey all of Frankston; brothers Louie Davis of Illinois, Bobby Davis of California, Lee Vell Davis of Tyler, Areador Thompson Jr. of Duncanville and Larry Davis of Jacksonville; sisters Ella Posey of Ft. Worth and Ruby Hobby of San Antonio; and a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Milton Hobby, Vincent Alexander, Willie Hobby, Le’Darrin Donnell, Clinton Hobby Jr., Chad Donnell, Byron Eldridge and Jason Donnell.

Deacons of Pine Springs Baptist Church served as honorary pallbearers.
