Pictures with archived obituaries posted after that will be added in cooperation with funeral homes or on requests from families.  As was the tradition of the Citizen newspaper, obituaries are published at no charge.

Ronnie Spencer

Funeral services for Ronnie Spencer, 59, Berryville were held at 10 a.m. Friday, April 5 in the Thompson Funeral Home Chapel in Frankston with the Rev. Chuck Myers and the Rev. Harry Olson officiating.

Burial was at Garden Oaks Memorial Park in Berryville.

Mr. Spencer died Tuesday, April 2 in a Tyler hospital.

He was born Dec. 19, 1942 in Richmond, Calif.

Mr. Spencer was a retired truck driver, employed by Safeway Grocery Co. He was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Whitehouse and was also a former leader and commander of the Royal Rangers in the Assembly of God, former board member and had served as a deacon.

Mr. Spencer was preceded in death by his parents, Faye and Birdie Spencer and a sister, Patsy Rhoades.

Survivors include his wife, Gloria Spencer, Berryville; sons and daughters-in-law, Ronnie and Kathy Spencer, Willis; Dale Spencer, Berryville; daughter and son-in-law, Luann and Tony Forson, Jacksonville; a sister, Janie Olson, Duncanville; six grandchildren, Halee Spencer, Spencer Atkinson, Ryan Spencer, Travis Atkinson, Kyle Spencer and Emilee Spencer; three step grandchildren, Tara Forson, Lauren Forson and Stephen Forson; one step great grandson, Logan Forson; several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Nat Smoker, David Mauser, Nathan Smoker, David Fricault, Harley Wilson and Harry Olson, Jr.

Omega Cole Hines

Funeral services for Omega Cole Hines, 82, of Frankston were held at 10 a.m. Friday, April 12, in the Thompson Funeral Home Chapel in Frankston, with Rev. Jack Shoultz and Rev. Lloyd Holt officiating.

Burial was in the Frankston City Cemetery under direction of Thompson Funeral Home of Frankston.

Mrs. Hines died Tuesday, April 9 at a Tyler hospital.

She was born June 29, 1919 in Frankston.

Mrs. Hines was a retired teacher. She formerly taught at Ole Miss and several high schools in East Texas. She also taught speech at Jacksonville Baptist College.

Mrs. Hines was a member of Brushy Creek United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Hines.

Survivors include a son, David Hines of Tacoma WA.; daughters and son-in-law, Pam McDonald of Frankston, Margo and Gary Beard of Athens; eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were grandsons and nephews.

Duel ‘D.J.’ Tarrant Sr.

Funeral services for Duel “D.J.” Tarrant Sr., 82, of Frankston were held Wednesday, April 10, at 10 a.m. at the Assembly of God Church in Frankston with Rev. J.A. Griffin officiating.

Burial was in Frankston City Cemetery under direction of Thompson Funeral Home of Frankston.

Mr. Tarrant was born Nov. 28, 1919 in Bullard, son of Richard and Agnes Tarrant. He died Sunday, April 7, in Tyler.

He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Angela Arnwine.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Lavada Tarrant of Frankston; sons and daughters-in-law, Jarrett and Johnnia Tarrant of Houston, and Roger and Denise Tarrant of Frankston; daughters and son-in-law, Francille Latham, and Sharyn and Frank Harrison, all of Frankston; one brother, Lowell Tarrant of Palestine; 10 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Grandsons served as pallbearers.

Honorary pallbearers were employees of D.J. Tarrant Lumber and Tie Co.

Glenda Saunders

Funeral services for Glenda Mitchell Saunders, 62, of Frankston were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 9, at Thompson Funeral Home Chapel in Frankston.

Mrs. Saunders died Saturday, April 6, in Frankston.

She was born Sept. 25, 1939, in Palestine. Mrs. Saunders was a homemaker and a Presbyterian.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Brady Saunders, and a sister, Clara Joan Mitchell.

Survivors include her son, Kelly Saunders, Frankston; a daughter, Staci Smith, Frankston; her mother, Clara Mitchell, Palestine; a sister, Patricia Walker, Fincastle; five grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Glen Van Noy

Funeral services for Glen Van Noy, 83, of Frankston were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 6, in the Thompson Funeral Home Chapel in Frankston with Rev. J.A. Griffin officiating.

Burial was at Liberty Hill Cemetery, Frankston.

Mr. Van Noy died Wednesday, April 3, in a Tyler hospital.

He was born Dec. 4, 1918 in Chelsea, OK.

Mr. Van Noy served in the U.S. Air Force for 22 years, serving in World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was a lieutenant colonel, a pilot and POW. He was a Mason and Shriner and had a Master’s Degree in Aeronautical Engineering.

Survivors include his wife, Jan Van Noy of Frankston; sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Janie Van Noy, and Glen Richard and Kathy Van Noy, all of Dallas; a sister, Betsy Rapp of Arizona; five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Helen Taylor

POYNOR — Graveside services for Helen D. Taylor, 81, San Pablo, Calif., formerly of Poynor, were held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 5, at Blackjack Cemetery, Henderson County, with Brother Joe Smith officiating under direction of Chandler Memorial Funeral Home, Chandler.

Ms. Taylor died Saturday, March 30 in San Pablo, Calif.

She was born June 17, 1920, in Henderson County to the late Tom and Lonie Taylor, and attended LaPoynor Schools.

Mrs. Taylor lived in San Pablo, Calif. most of her life and retired from Prescolit Manufacturing Co. after 35 years service.

She was preceded in death by sister, Johnnie Fay Rice.

Survivors include a sister, Hazel Smith, Athens.

Michael Chandler

LARUE — Funeral services for Michael J. Chandler, 24, of LaRue, were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 6, at Eubank Funeral Home Chapel in Canton with Rev. John Wilson officiating.

Burial was in Poynor Community Cemetery.

Mr. Chandler died Thursday, April 4, in Athens.

He was born Aug. 22, 1977 in Big Lake.

Mr. Chandler attended school at LaPoynor High School and was a member of Athens Praise and Worship Church.

Survivors include his parents, Darrell and Joy Kathylene Shedd Chandler, LaRue; brother, John Wesley Chandler, Tyler; sisters, Catrina Howell, Tyler, Rebekah Chandler and Roxanne Chandler, both of LaRue; grandparents, Dellis Chandler, Dickens, Elizabeth Shedd and Lavada Anderson, both of Plainview; step-grandmother, Ruby Chandler; nieces and nephews.

Zackery Kayne Browne

Funeral services for Zackery Kayne Browne, 12, of Whitehouse, were held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 17, at Thompson Funeral Home in Frankston.

Burial was in Poynor Cemetery under direction of Thompson Funeral Home.

He died Saturday, April 13, in Tyler. He was born Dec. 14, 1989 in Tyler and was a Baptist.

Survivors include his parents, Timothy and Kay Browne of Whitehouse; brothers, Brad and Stephanie Dingler of Nacogdoches, Jeffery Boothe of Ft. Benning, GA., and Josh Browne of Frankston; sisters, Crystal Browne of Frankston and Kimberly Browne of Whitehouse; grandparents, Lynda Hanna of Frankston, and Louie and Geri Dingler of Chapel Hill; great grandmother, Lavada Sweat of Frankston; and a niece, Lauren Fields of Frankston.

Mary Adelene Gober

Funeral services for Mary Adelene Gober, 86, of Orlando, Fla. were held Saturday, March 23, at Baldwin-Fairchild Goldenrod Chapel, Winter Park.

Mrs. Gober died Sunday, March 17, in Orlando, Fla.

She was born in Poynor on Aug. 13, 1915 to the late Samuel and Susan (Lee) Evans.

Mrs. Gober graduated from Frankston High School and Baylor University. She was a retired school teacher and a member of First Baptist Church of Orlando.

She was a preceded in death by her husband, Hansford Gober; and sisters, Louise Vermillion and Lenna Faye Page.

Survivors include daughters, Darlene Marvin of Boca Raton, Fla. and Carole Knudson of Orlando, Fla.; six grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

John T. McElvany

Funeral services for John T. McElvany, 80, former mayor of Berryville, were held at 10 a.m. Friday, April 26, at First Baptist Church in Frankston with the Revs. Eddie Hilburn and Jim Humphries officiating.

Burial was in the Cathedral in the Pines in Tyler with arrangements by Thompson Funeral Home of Frankston.

Mr. McElvany died Monday, April 22, at his residence. He was born Oct. 16, 1921 in Flint and formerly lived in Gresham. He was a retired employee of Sears where he was employed for 10 years. He served as mayor of Berryville for eight years. Mr. McElvany was a member of First Baptist Church, Frankston. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy McElvany of Frankston; son and daughter-in-law, John and Cheri McElvany of Irving; daughters and sons-in-law, Virginia and Dr. Marvin Romsdahl of Houston, Barbara and William H. Myers of Richmond, VA; sisters and brothers-in-law, Louise and J.C. Arnold of Texarkana, Juanita and Otice Johnston of Flint; eight grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Norman Neal, Walker Smith, Bob Crawford, Al Kolb, Bob Selman and Johnny Burks.

Memorial donations may be made to the Hospice of East Texas or First Baptist Church, Frankston, Building Fund.

Celexie Pierson

Funeral services for Mrs. Celexie Pierson, 73, of Frankston were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 27 at the Frankston High School Auditorium with the Rev. Gary Carter officiating.

Burial was in the Mt. Olive Sandflat Cemetery under the direction of John R. Harmon Undertaking Co.

Mrs. Pierson died Sunday, April 21 at Trinity Mother Frances Hospital in Tyler.

She was born Sept. 27, 1928 in Cherokee County. She attended Cuney High School, Texas College, Prairie View A&M and East Texas State University at Commerce.

She was a lifelong resident of the area and a member of the Mount Olive Sandflat Baptist Church. She was a former church secretary, youth director and Sunday School teacher. She was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a retired teacher.

Mrs. Pierson was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Frank Pierson.

Survivors include one son, Cedric Pierson, Tyler; three brothers, Willie F. Williams and Bobby Williams, Tyler; McArthur Williams, San Antonio; three sisters, Darlene Border, Oklahoma City, Okla.; Marcella Broughton, Tyler and Annie B. Nelson, Dallas and two grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Reggie Runnels, Jody Mitchell, Floyd Marshall, Joe Reed, Rodger Boykins and Norvel Boykins.

Honorary pallbearers were the deacons of the Mount Olive Sandflat Church.

Peggy Ann Lovell

LARUE — Funeral services for Peggy Ann Lovell, 54, of LaRue, were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 24, at Eubank Funeral Home chapel, Canton, with the Revs. Charles Brown and James Starkes officiating.

Burial was in Edom Cemetery, Edom.

Mrs. Lovell died Sunday, April 21, in Tyler.

She was born March 10, 1948 in Edom to the late Wesley Sylvester and Flora Flay Hendrix Byrd. She lived in Ben Wheeler before moving to LaRue five years ago. She was a member of LaRue Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Steve Lovell in 1991 and nephew, Eugene Brown.

Survivors include her sister, Jean Brown, LaRue.

Pallbearers were Danny Hendrix, Jeff Carter, Steve Carter, Craig Carter, Larry Hendrix and Lyle McRuiz.
