We will add pictures to archived obituaries from the print version of The Citizen newspaper prior to September 2019 when available. Pictures with archived obituaries posted after that will be added in cooperation with funeral homes or on requests from families.  As was the tradition of the Citizen newspaper, obituaries are published at no charge.

Clifford “Cliff” Stephens

Graveside services for Clifford “Cliff” Stephens, 82, of Frankston were held Saturday, April 1 at the Frankston City Cemetery with Mr. John Thompson officiating under direction of Thompson Funeral Home, Frankston.

He passed away Wednesday, March 29.

Mr. Stephens was born December 6, 1923 in Anderson County.

He was a retired salesman for Sterling Bolt Co. in Dallas and served in the U.S. Navy.

Survivors include daughters Trennis Peters and Jan Careon both of Dallas, sister Louise Walding of Frankston and three grandchildren.

Pherba Carter

Funeral services for Pherba Lee Carter, 93, of Frankston were held Tuesday, April 4 at Renfro Memorial Chapel with Lester Foreman officiating under direction of Boren-Conner Funeral Home, Jacksonville. Burial was in Frankston City Cemetery.

Mrs. Carter passed away Sunday, April 2.

She was born October 7, 1912 in Bailey, Oklahoma. She had lived in the Frankston area since 1989. She was a housewife.

Mrs. Carter was preceded in death by husband Earl Carter in 1955 and a son, Alvin Carter.

Survivors include sons Charles Carter of Portland, Oregon, Elvin Carter of California Valley and Ferrell Carter of Oregon; daughters Betty Savage, Jimmie Noth and Janice Albritton, all of Frankston and Joyce Fitch of Waco; brothers Jim Yancey of Flagstaff and George Yancey of Hennipen, Oklahoma; eighteen grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.

Grandsons served as pallbearers.

Christene Funderburk

Memorial services for Christene Holliman Funderburk, 88, of Colorado Springs, Colorado were held Saturday, April 15 at 2 p.m. at Tyler Memorial Park in Tyler.

She passed away March 23.

Mrs. Funderburk was born October 16, 1917 in Frankston to Judson and Elizabeth Hanson Holliman. She was the oldest of three children and a 1935 graduate of Tyler High School.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Elzie and Clifford Holliman and her husband of 60 years Ernest Leroy Funderburk.

She was a homemaker from 1935 to 1953, when she began a long career in retail; first as the only professional shopper for the five Broadway Department stores in Los Angeles, CA and later in retail sales management at the Broadway in Whittier, CA.

Survivors include daughter and son-in-law Linda and Leslie Ellis Lantz of Colorado Springs; granddaughter Lenee Anita Jolly, grandsons Robert Leroy and Christopher Nicholas Heise of Weatherford; sisters-in-law Gladys Holliman of Athens and Lois Holliman Atchison of Poynor; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Donations to the Alzheimer’s Association will be appreciated.

Jimmie Renfro

Funeral services for Jimmie Ruth Miller Renfro, 53, of Frankston were held Saturday, April 8 at Pine Springs Baptist Church with the Rev. Lonnie Ross officiating under direction of John R. Harmon Undertaking Co., Tyler.

Burial was in Pine Springs Cemetery.

Ms. Renfro passed away Sunday, April 2.

She was born Feb. 15, 1953 in Anderson County. Ms. Renfro graduated from LaPoynor High School and was a lifelong resident of Anderson County. She was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Frankston. She was a home health aide.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters and three brothers.

Survivors include son Marcus Renfro of Frankston, brother Burnett Miller of Alto and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Pallbearers were Staci Whitehead, Marcel Ingram, Richard Vanzant, Johnny Bowman, John Paul Baker and Alfonso Lang.

Honorary pallbearers were James L. Clark, Sr., Kermit Clark, Billy Clark, Johnny R. Miller, Patrick Miller, Charles Miller, Donnell Miller, Monroe Miller and Rodney McKenzie.

Billy Jack 'Blue' Beard

Funeral services for Billy Jack “Blue” Beard, 78, of Frankston were held Wednesday, April 19 at Thompson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Doug Howell and Rev. J.A. Griffin officiating under direction of Thompson Funeral Home, Frankston.

Burial was in Wofford Cemetery.

Mr. Beard passed away Sunday, April 16.

He was born March 23, 1928 in Frankston. Mr. Beard had served in the U.S. Army and was a retired pipeline construction worker. He served as Anderson County Commissioner for twelve years. He and his wife owned Beard Grocery Store in Frankston. He was a member of United Methodist Church in Frankston.

Mr. Beard was preceded in death by two daughters, Lisa Denise Martin and Tammy Jane Beard.

Survivors include his wife Frances W. Beard of Frankston; grandsons Jody Wayne Martin, Michael Chase Martin and Billy Carrington Martin, all of Frankston; great grandchildren Savannah Hope Martin and Tyler Keith Martin of Irving; brothers T.L. Beard, Doodle Doyle Beard and Pete Beard, all of Frankston; sisters Ruth Novalene Burris, Betty Jean Reese, Mary Ann Randall, all of Dallas, and Gladys Faye Overton of Lake Palestine; and extended family member Edward Carrington Allison of Ft. Worth.

Pallbearers were Dan Lade, Spencer Beard, Gary Beard, Jerry Beard, James Beard and Ronnie Moore.

Honorary pallbearers were David Smith, Bo Ousley, Jerry Boles, Mike Dennis, Troy House and Bob Phillips.

Thomas S. Wylie, Jr.

Memorial services for Thomas S. Wylie, Jr., 67, of Frankston were held Saturday, April 29 at 2 p.m. in the Thompson Funeral Home Chapel, Frankston with Rev. J.A. Griffin officiating under direction of Thompson Funeral Home.

Mr. Wylie passed away Wednesday, Feb. 1.

He was born July 6, 1938 in Frederick, OK. He was a retired truck driver and had served in the U.S. Navy.

Survivors include his wife Donna Wylie of Frankston; sons and daughters-in-law Monte and Jami Wylie of Phoenix, AZ and Thomas and Connie Wylie of Wilton, IA; daughters Jodi Wylie and Deborah Kapp, both of Phoenix; brothers Charlie Wylie of Frankston, Felix Wylie of Bachita, OK, David Wylie of Holliday and Terry Wylie of Phoenix; sisters Willa Poe of Oklahoma City, Barbara Long of Wichita Falls and Linda Lonsway of Fairfax, VA; seven grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
