Mathew Lavon Cox

Mathew Lavon Cox passed from this life Sunday afternoon, March 31, 2013, in Victoria.

Born Nov. 26, 1975, in Texas City, Mr. Cox had been a resident of Hallettsville for the last three years, previously of Santa Fe. Mathew graduated from Santa Fe High School before becoming a pipeline welder. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Survivors include his wife Lynette “Netty” Cox; parents Floyd and Vickie Cox of Frankston; parents-in-law Harvey and Lois Bradley of Yoakum; children Floyd Chance Lavon Cox, Savanna JoDee Marie Cox both of Troup, Mathew Blain Cox of Chapel Hill, Jayse Tettenhorst, Kodee Lynn Huebner of Yoakum and Kyndal Turner of Chapel Hill; brother Nathan Lynn Cox and wife, Crystal, of Santa Fe; nieces and nephews Alexis Cox, Garrett Cox, Katelyn Cox, Hayes Cox, Cobey Cox and other extended family and friends.

Funeral services were to be held Thursday, April 4, in the chapel of Hayes Funeral Home, with Pastor Chance Gardner officiating.  Interment was to follow at Hayes Grace Memorial Park Cemetery.

Pallbearers were to be Chance Cox, Jason Cox, Nathan Cox, Jerry Don Hall, Chris Johnson, Terry Joe Mauldin, Tony Perez, P.J. Porter, Jimmy Quebe and James Wingo “JW”.

Services are under direction of Hayes Funeral Home in Hitchcock.


Shirley Ann Reschke

Funeral services for Shirley Ann Reschke, 65, of Athens were held Wednesday, April 3, 2013, at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. George Folmar officiating.  

Burial followed at Carroll Springs Cemetery.

She passed away Thursday, March 28, 2013, in Athens.

Shirley was born April 13, 1947, in Terrell. The daughter of Robert Edgar Williams and Lillian Geneva Hunt Williams.  

She was a Baptist and a devoted homemaker.  She enjoyed cooking, canning and making pies.  She spent much of her time outdoors planting flowers and gardening.  

Granny loved playing games with her grand kids.  She was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother and will be greatly missed by all those she touched.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons Robert V. Reschke and Jerry Don Reschke II; and a granddaughter Frances “Sissy” Myers.

She is survived by her loving husband of 46 years Jerry Don Reschke Sr.; her children Deborah and husband Johnny Myers of Mesquite, April and husband Charles (Bubba) Brewer Jr. of Tennessee Colony, Jodi and husband Wesley Richmon of Athens, J.D. and wife Lucy Reschke of Athens; one sister; four brothers; nine grandchildren Amanda Michelle Richmon, Cassie LeAnn Strange, Johnny H. Myers III, James Frank Myers, Cody Wayne Brewer, Beau Brent Brewer, Justin F. Richmon, Shane G. Richmon, William James Strange; five great grandchildren James Frank Myers Jr., Johnny Colton Myers, Jason Kyle Barberee Jr., Makayla Mendoza, Makyla Mendoza; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Johnny H. Myers III, James Frank Myers, Cody Wayne Brewer, Beau Brent Brewer, Justin F. Richmon, Shane G. Richmon and William James Strange.

The family has asked that donations be made to the Jerry Reschke Memorial Fund at Citizens State Bank in Athens, account #67169410.

Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Hannigan Smith Funeral Home of Athens.

Edwin Ray Warrington

Edwin Ray Warrington, 91, of Odessa, went to be with the Lord on Monday, March 25, 2013, in Odessa.

Funeral services were held Friday, March 29, 2013, at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Terry Pierce officiating.  Burial followed at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers were Aaron Adcock, Michael Dunn, Mark Dunn, Steve Dunn, Christopher Pipes, and Dennis Pipes.  Honorary pallbearer was Jay Adcock.

Mr. Warrington was born Dec. 11, 1921, to Ed and Jewell Warrington in Frankston. He married Jutta Bennig April 26, 1941.  He moved to West Texas in 1951 and worked as an operator for El Paso Natural Gas Company until retirement.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, two brothers, four sisters, and great granddaughter, Hayley Skyler Adcock.

Survivors include his daughters Marianne Dunn and husband Travis Dunn of Odessa, Marga Rae Pipes and husband Gary Pipes of Midland; son Keith Bailey and wife Cheryl Bailey of Cody, Wyoming; sister Martha Hopper of San Antonio; brother Dudley Warrington of Frankston; 5 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and 6 great great grandchildren.

The family requests memorials be directed to Hospice of Odessa and wish to give sincere thanks to pastors and friends for visitation during his illness. They also wish to express their gratitude to the staff of 5 Central at Medical Center Hospital.

Frank “Bubba” Hunter

Graveside services for Frank “Bubba” Hunter, 39, of Kilgore, were held Friday, April 5, 2013, at Gossett’s Chapel Cemetery in Jacksonville with Bro. Davey Smith officiating.

Services were under direction of Autry Funeral Home in Jacksonville.

Mr. Hunter passed away Tuesday, April 2, 2013, in Kilgore.

He was born Jan. 13, 1974, in Palestine.

Mr. Hunter was a member and song leader at Fellowship Baptist Church in Tyler, and was an auto mechanic.

He is preceded in death by his father Gene Hunter and grandparents Dover and Mamie Hunter and F. R. “Pete” and Loreta Gray.

Survivors include his wife LaRhonda Hunter of Blossom; mother Frances Hunter of Bullard; sons Bryan Hunter and Jacob Hunter of Chapel Hill; daughters Ramie Hunter and Gracie Hunter of Chapel Hill; step sons Chris Lee and wife Randie of Hallsville, Brad Lee of Kilgore, and Steven Lee and wife Megan of Kilgore; brother Don Hunter and wife Ricarda of Berryville; sisters Janice Day and husband Matt of Tyler and Lynda Rice and husband Doug of Flint; three grandchildren Annabelle Lee, Hayden Lee, and Cameron Lee; one niece and one nephew.


Spencer Nelson

Spencer Nelson, 54, passed away Monday, April 1, 2013, in Bowie, Texas.

A memorial service was held Sunday, April 7, 2013, in the drawing room of the White Family Funeral Home with Joe Caballero officiating.

Memorials may be made to the Hospice of Rural Texas.

Arrangements are entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home of Bowie.

Nelson was born Dec. 26, 1958, to Arnold and Flossie (Mueller) Nelson in Bowie.

Spencer and Nancy began their lives together on May 29, 1982. Beginning in 1984, Spencer owned and operated a trucking business, H & H Trucking.

In 2000, he started S & N Trucking and was also partner in North Central Tank Truck Company. Spencer was a master mechanic and an avid race car fan. He also owned and operated Cripple Creek Game Club in Oklahoma where he raised and fought game cocks. Spencer enjoyed going to auctions and fishing, and is remembered with love and appreciation of his devoted years of life as a husband, father and grandfather.

He is preceded in death by parents Arnold and Flossie Nelson; foster parents Art and Irene Hawkins; daughter Valarie Ann Price; granddaughter Katlin Elizabeth Nelson; three brothers Darrell Nelson, James Nelson, and Art Hawkins Jr.; sister Debra Curnutte; father-in-law Creo Summit; and brother-in-law Hoyle Graham.

Spencer is survived by his wife and partner of 31 years, Nancy Price Nelson of Sunset; three children Josh Polk and wife, Leigh Ann, of Montague, Jimi Chris Nelson of Oklahoma, and Judy Hawkins of Bowie; two brothers Art Nelson and wife, Vicki, of Spring Dale, Ark. and Robert Hawkins and wife, Patti, of Bowie; four sisters Patricia Cleveland-Dixon and husband, Hank, of Bowie, Debbie Graham of Marietta, Okla., Kathy Valdez and husband, Tommy, of Cabot, Ark., and Sarah Hawkins of Oklahoma; five grandchildren Layla Polk, Jamie Lawler, Casey Alford, and Tonee Curnutte, and Trafton Morgan; two great grandchildren Julia Lawler and Wilder Alford; mother-in-law Dorathy Summit; brothers and sisters-in-law Jim and Pam Stinson of Poynor, Johnny and Beth Summit of Keller, and Jimmy and Dee Rivers of Richardson; numerous nieces and nephews; special angels Jemae Hawkins, Darla Curnutte, Sondy Medley, JoAnn and J.B. Jordon, and the girls at Bowie Memorial Hospital; special friends Darrell Curnutte, Junior Ingram, Doug Nolan, Dennis Barnes, and Harvey Thronberry.


Lawrence Rayburn “Pops” Plummer

Rayburn “Pops” Plummer, 84, of Frankston passed away April 4, 2013, at his home.  

Graveside services will be at 3 p.m., Thursday, April 11, 2013, at Plummer Cemetery in Limestone County, Texas.

Lawrence was born Sept. 24, 1928, in Teague, Texas, to George and Eula Belle Jackson Plummer.  

He was a retired iron worker and welder.  

Lawrence served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II.  He was a man that truly loved to work, always looking for something to do.  

He enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing.  

Lawrence was a loving and devoted father and grandfather. His family was proud of their Pops.  He was a member of the Church of Christ in Oakwood.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings George and Gary Plummer and Evelyn Walker.

Pops is survived by his children Deborah Raney, Larry David Plummer and Danial R. Plummer and wife Debra; grandchildren Matthew Plummer, Chasity Plummer, Stormey Lusk, Chris and Raeleigh Plummer; and siblings Darwin Plummer and Jean.

Peggy Rankin

Graveside services for Peggy Rankin, 73, of Berryville, were held Monday, April 8, 2013, at Frankston City Cemetery with the Rev. Scott Wiley officiating.

Services were under direction of Autry Funeral Home in Frankston.

Mrs. Rankin passed away April 3, 2013, in Berryville.

She was born Feb. 25, 1940, in Natchez, Miss.

Mrs. Rankin was a Baptist and was an insurance administrative assistant.

She was a loving and caring wife, mother, and grandma that was so proud of her family.

She is preceded in death by her husband Ray Rankin; parents Floyd and Cleora Pearson; and brother Maxie Pearson.

Survivors include her daughters Michelle Rankin of Berryville and Renee Scheinbart and husband Greg of Pflugerville; brothers Earl Pearson, John Pearson and Tommy Pearson and wife Desiree; sisters-in-law Edith Pearson and Delight Kinser; granddaughters Kristina Norris and husband Nick and Lindsey Scheinbart; grandson Ethan Scheinbart; great-granddaughters Makenzie Norris and Hailey Norris; and several nieces and nephews.

Madeline “Susie” Dunklin

Services for Madeline “Susie” Dunklin, 99, of Frankston were to be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 18, in Carroll-Lehr Funeral Chapel with the Rev. George Folmar officiating.

Burial was to follow in Myrtle Springs Cemetery in LaRue.

Mrs. Dunklin died April 15, 2013, in Athens.

She was born July 28, 1913, in Henderson County to the late David Franklin and Pearl Rivers Masters Walker.

Mrs. Dunklin had been a resident of Frankston 70 years and was a member of the United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband William Lloyd Dunklin in 1990; son Larry Dunklin; daughter Barbara Holt; grandson Stephen Lookabaugh; five brothers; and four sisters.

Survivors include her sons James Dunklin of Conroe, John F. Dunklin of Cross Roads; daughters Doris Belcher, Martha Clark and husband Bill, Judy Lookabaugh and husband Kenneth, all of Athens; daughter-in-law Sherry Dunklin of Frankston; brother-in-law Kenneth Dunklin and wife Lillian of Frankston; 15 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; and 14 great great grandchildren.

Great grandsons were to have served as pallbearers.

Grandsons were to have served as honorary pallbearers.

Visitation for family and friends was from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 17, at the funeral home.

Preston Birdwell

Funeral services for Preston Birdwell, 88, of Reklaw were held Saturday, April 13, at New Emmaus Cemetery in Concord with Chaplain Gary Sparks officiating.

Mr. Birdwell was born Sept. 28, 1924, in Cushing, Texas, and died April 9 2013, in Tyler.

He worked for Rameys Plant Farm for many years until he became self-employed.

He was preceded in death by his daughter Marie Birdwell; mother Eva Lee McLeroy; father Percy Birdwell; sister Beluah “Boots” McClaran; brother R. L. Birdwell and grandson Troy Wayne Fugitt.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Gloria Birdwell of Reklaw; sister Faye LaFaitt of Whitehouse; two sons Kelly Birdwell and Rudy Birdwell and daughter-in-law Robin Hathaway; three daughters and two sons-in-law Tammy and Russell Bales, Mary and Donnie Pannell and Sharon Birdwell, all of Reklaw; 8 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were James Bale, Johnny Birdwell, Eddie Dee Birdwell, Hershel Bradley, James Hathaway and Brandon Smith.


Mike Mulkey

A memorial service for Mike Mulkey, 52, of Frankston, was held Wednesday April 17, 2013, at The Brushy Creek Arbor with Bro. Michael Foster and Bro. Jimmy Davis officiating.

Arrangements were under the direction of Autry Funeral Home in Frankston.

Mr. Mulkey passed away Sunday, April 14, 2013, in Tyler.

He was born March 21, 1961, in Dallas.

He is preceded in death by his parents Homer Lee and Willie Mulkey; and brother Jimmy Mulkey.

Survivors include his wife Lori Mulkey of Frankston; daughters Melanie Dunn and husband Douglas and Jennifer Parrott and husband Jason, both of Poynor; brothers Joe Mulkey of Rusk and Harold Mulkey of Dallas; sisters Mary Smith and Zana Railey both of Dallas; loving in-laws Wil and Vivian Baker of Frankston; 4 grandchildren Marissa Dunn, Zach Dunn, Jacob Parrott and Nathan Riley Parrott; several nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Visitation was held Tuesday April 16, 2013, at Country Chapel Church in LaRue.


Macel L. Greer Aills

Macel L. Greer Aills was born February 4, 1942, and passed away at the age of 71 on April 20, 2013, in Tyler.  

A private family graveside service will be held to celebrate her life.  She had been a resident of Frankston for 30 years, formerly living in the Houston area.

She was preceded in death by her parents Mike and Meredith Greer, and sister Sherry.

Survivors include her husband Roger; children Tanya, Jared and Michelle; step-children Jess, Rebecca and Cindy; sister Pam; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

If desired, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.


Gloria S. Gates

Memorial services for Gloria S. Gates, 45, of Lakeview, Oregon, were held Sunday, April 21, 2013, at Neches First Baptist Church in Neches.

Burial followed at Neches Cemetery.

Gates passed away March 18 at Lake District Hospital in Lakeview, Oregon, in the presence of loved ones.

She was born Feb. 9, 1968, to Thomas and Patricia Crawford. She graduated from Neches High School in 1986 and was a homemaker.

Mrs. Gates was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Thomas Wayne Crawford.She is survived by daughters Meagan Field and husband Chris of Tyler, Morgan Buford and husband Buddy of Palestine; grandson Ryan Field; husband Richard Gates of Lakeview, Oregon; sisters Tammy Lewis of Jacksonville and Tina Bolton of Neches; brothers George Crawford of Jacksonville and Mike Crawford of Neches; along with numerous nieces and nephews.


Glen Ray Martin

Graveside services for Glen Ray Martin, 85, of Jacksonville were held Friday, April 19, 2013, at the Upper Cedar Creek Cemetery near Bastrop.

Eddie Milham officiated. Services were under direction of Autry Funeral Home of Jacksonville.

Mr. Martin died Wednesday in Jacksonville.

Glen was born July 11, 1927, in Bastrop County.

Mr. Martin moved to Palestine in 1954 and then to Frankston in 1963.

He owned Martin’s Marina on Lake Palestine and Martin’s Garbage Service in Frankston and Malakoff.

Mr. Martin was also a farmer and a rancher.

He is survived his wife Dorothy Martin of Jacksonville; daughters and sons-in-law Barbara Haws and Roy of Jacksonville, Patricia Price of Vidor, Glenna Lee Martin of Rusk, Mary Ellen Milham and Eddie of Longview, Rebecca Pemberton and Roy of Jacksonville; grandchildren and spouses Eddie Starling and Melissa, Jason Starling, Jennifer Starling, Justin Williams, Kimberly Riley and Matt, Jonathan Price, Tina and Kristina and Kevin Glenn; and nine great grandchildren.
