Elna Pauline Green

Funeral services for Elna Pauline Green, 89, of Berryville were held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 4, in the Thompson Funeral Home Chapel in Frankston with Rev. Ron Ivy officiating.

Burial was at Garden Oaks Memorial Park in Berryville.

Mrs. Green died Monday, Aug. 2, in a Tyler hospital.

She was born March 21 in Oplin, Texas. Mrs. Green was a homemaker and a member of the Sewing Club at Wingate.

Survivors include her husband, Walter J. Green of Berryville; sons, Gary Dixon Green of Frankston and Cary Layne Green of Jacksonville; a daughter, Etta Lavanda Webb of Abilene; a brother, Ure Doyle Satterwhite of Bellville; six grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were family and friends.

Maria Rains Lane

Graveside services for Maria Rains Lane, 42, of Frankston were held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 29, at Larissa Cemetery near Mount Selman with the Rev. J.A. Griffin officiating, under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home of Jacksonville.

Mrs. Lane died Tuesday, July 27, in a Tyler hospital.

She was born Aug. 15, 1961 in Chicago, Ill. Mrs. Lane was a substitute teacher at Frankston Elementary School and was a Catholic.

She was preceded in death by her father, Manuel Alvarez, and a brother, Jose Alvarez.

Survivors include her husband, Rocky Lane of Frankston; a daughter, Whitney Maria Alvarez Rains of Frankston; a step-son, Rocky Lane Jr. of Frankston; her mother, Lydia Alvarez of Harlingen; brothers, Dionicio Alvarez of Wauseon, Ohio, Robert Alvarez of Houston, Carlos Alvarez of Corpus Christi, Manuel Alvarez Jr, Jesus Alvarez and Paul Alvarez, all of Harlingen; sisters, Guadalupe Tovar of Corpus Christi, Aurora Norris of Indiana, Oralia Downen of Denver, Colo., Lydia Trevinio and Connie Gonzales, both of Harlingen; three grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Rocky Lane Jr., Carlos Alvarez, Jesus Alvarez, Paul Alvarez, Robert Alvarez and Dion Alvarez.

Robert G. ‘Bob’ Foster

Funeral services for Robert G. “Bob” Foster, 83, Brierwood Bay, Frankston were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 10 at Tyler Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. J.A. Griffin officiating.

Entombment was in Field of Honor Mausoleum in Tyler Memorial Park Cemetery under direction of Memorial Funeral Home, Tyler.

Mr. Foster died Friday, Aug. 6 at a Tyler hospice.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and worked for an office supply warehouse. Mr. Foster lived in Frankston for 30 years, and was formerly of Dallas. He was a member of Frankston Assembly of God, and member of the Frankston VFW Post 5073.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Glaydis Foster; and a daughter, Joann Williams.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Bobbie Foster of Brierwood Bay; children, Larry Green Foster of Everman, Michael Foster of Worthington, Minn., and Bobbie Leisher of Dallas; and seven grandchildren.

Pallbearers were members of VFW Post 5073.

Glenda Harris

WHITEHOUSE — Funeral services for Glenda Harris, 57, of Whitehouse were held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 9, at Lloyd James Funeral Chapel in Tyler with Bro. Jim Sellars officiating.

Burial was at Whitehouse Cemetery under the direction of Lloyd James Funeral Home.

Mrs. Harris was born Jan. 22, 1947 in New Summerfield to the late Clarence and Thelma Work and died Friday, Aug. 6 after a lengthy illness.

Prior to her illness, she was employed as a reproduction clerk at Petrofac, LLC. She married Elvin F. Harris on April 2, 1962 and moved to Whitehouse in 1968. Mrs. Harris was a Christian and a member of the Eastern Star for many years.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-laws, Stacie and Bud Kellis of Whitehouse, Glenna and Kenneth Key of Lake Palestine; a son and daughter-in-law, Tracy and Tracy Ann Harris of Whitehouse; two sisters, Wanda Butler of New Summerfield and Gwen Meyer of Houston; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Jeff Burk, David Givans, Dustin Frank, Jeremy Mitchum, Jamie Ridgie and Michael Williams Jr.

Honorary pallbearers were her grandsons.

Ruth Roberts Vinson Hutto

HENDERSON — Funeral services for Lillie Ruth Roberts Vinson Hutto, 77, of Henderson were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 7, at Crims Chapel First Baptist Church with the Rev. Kenneth Nichols and Bro. Leymoin Wiggins officiating.

Burial was in Crims Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Crawford-Crim-Bryan Funeral Home in Henderson.

Mrs. Hutto died Thursday, Aug. 5, in Henderson.

She was born Aug. 28, 1926, to the late Henry and Lidy Roberts in Poynor. She later moved to Henderson and married John W. Vinson. They were married for 25 years. She later married Thurman Hutto and they were married for 29 years. She was a member of Crims Chapel First Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John W. Vinson; and a son, Dale Vinson.

Survivors include her husband, Thurman Hutto of Henderson; a son, Jimmy Vinson of Henderson; two daughters and sons-in-law, Gail and Jarrell Howeth of Henderson, and Martha and Frank Addington of Henderson; a daughter-in-law, Brenda Vinson of Lufkin; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Homer E. Roberts of Frankston; and a sister, Margie Roberts Loden of Jacksonville; and nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Roy Vinson, James Rowell, Jimmy Ray Vinson, Ben Bradshaw, Charles Lynn Hutto, Wesley Vinson, Buck Hance and J.R. McDaniel.

LaVonne Beard

Funeral services for LaVonne Beard, 61, of Frankston were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 17, at Thompson Funeral Home in Frankston with Revs. J.A. Griffin and George Folmar officiating.

Burial was in Frankston City Cemetery.

Mrs. Beard died Saturday, Aug. 14, in a Tyler hospice.

She was born May 7, 1943 in North Dakota. Mrs. Beard was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Max R. Beard; a son, Leslie Beard; and parents, Robert and Louise Butler.

Survivors include sons, Wesley Beard, Max Beard Jr. and wife, Dena, all of Frankston; daughters, Sheila Van Deman and husband, Keith, Michelle Blackwell and husband Shawn, all of Frankston; brothers, Robert Butler and Art Little, both of North Dakota; sisters, Viola Hosie and Betty Brandt, both of North Dakota; eight grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Earl Lang, Larry Selman, Hayden Mitchell, Wayne Phillips, Don Paul Shepherd, Herbert Riley, Jerry Beard and Justin Beard.

Bonnie Bowen

FLINT — Funeral services for Bonnie Bowen, 72, of Flint were held Wednesday, Aug. 18, at 2 p.m. at Woodville at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Days Saints with Gordon McCabe officiating.

A memorial service was held Tuesday, Aug. 17 at 3 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Tyler.

Mrs. Bowen died Saturday, Aug. 14, at a Tyler hospice.

She had lived 12 years in the Tyler and Lake Palestine area. She and her husband, Richard, had owned the Hodge Podge in Flint.

Mrs. Bowen was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served in many capacities, including Relief Society, Primary President and organist.

She was preceded in death by a son, Robert Paget.

Survivors include her husband, Richard Bowen; a son, Jon Paget and wife Becky of Marietta, Ga.; a daughter, Wendy Ketham and husband James (Jim Bo) of Woodville; a daughter-in-law, Pascale Paget, wife of the late Robert Paget of Maple Valley, Wash.; 15 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; a brother, LaMar Phillips and wife Dorothy of Glenwood, Utah; a sister, JoAnn Peterson and husband Ronald of Hector, Minn.

E.L. Erskin Bristow

Funeral services for E.L. Erskin Bristow, 90, of the New York Community were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 15, in the New York Baptist Church with Danny Bristow officiating.

Burial was in Myrtle Springs Cemetery near LaRue under direction of Cooper Funeral Home, Athens.

Mr. Bristow died Friday, Aug. 13, in Athens.

He was born Aug. 15, 1913 in Fincastle to the late John L. and Carrie Allender Bristow. He attended school in Fincastle and lived his entire life in Henderson County. He married Lena Evelyn Walker on Sept 20, 1920 on Myrtle Springs Mountain. They were longtime members of New York Baptist Church, where he had served as an ordained deacon for 50 years. He was a retired farmer and rancher and had also worked for Henderson County in Road and Maintenance.

Mr. Bristow was preceded in death by his wife in 1994; a son Robert Lee Bristow, in 1991; brothers, Chesley and Barney; and sisters, Lillie, Suzie and Becky.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Billy and Bobbie Bristow of Brownsboro, Terry and Bettie Bristow of New York Community and Ruth Bristow of Beckville; two daughters and sons in law, Peggy and Archie Clayton of Brownsboro, and Rosemary and Marvin Holcomb of LaRue; 20 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.

Grandsons served as pallbearers.

Honorary pallbearers were Jack Reynolds, Hugh Reynolds, Dr. N.D. Geddie Jr. and Troy Crossley.

Margaret Ann Johnson

TENNESSEE COLONY — Funeral services for Margaret Ann Johnson, 82, of Tennessee Colony were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 14, at Herrington/Land of Memory Funeral Home, Palestine, with Alex Kobar officiating.

Burial was in Broyles Chapel Cemetery.

Mrs. Johnson died Thursday, Aug. 12, in Tyler.

She was born March 6, 1922, in Windhorst to Nicholas and Veronica Simons Martine. Mrs. Johnson was a homemaker and a volunteer with Anderson County Chapter of the American Red Cross Hospital Volunteers.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Henry Dalton Johnson; and brothers, J.P. Martine, Gilbert Martine and Paul Martine.

Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Jeff and Fran Johnson of Gilmer, and Joel and Kathy Johnson of Frankston; sisters, Bernice Roskin of Lorena, Agnes Ballew of Hurst of Kathryn Quinn of Palacios, Teresa Kennedy of Zachary, La., and Mary Kuhn of Corpus Christi; brothers, Ray Martine of New Braunfels and Lawrence Martine of Bay City; three grandchildren, two great-granddaughters, nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Michael Johnson, Matthew Johnson and Travis Johnson, all grandsons, and Jim Martine, Paul Martine, Sammy Martine, Danny Martine and John Martine Jr.

Billie Holcomb Strickland

JACKSONVILLE — Funeral services for Billie Holcomb Strickland, 77, of Jacksonville, were held Sunday, Aug. 15, at Autry Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dan Middleton officiating.

Burial was at Resthaven Memorial Park in Jacksonville.

Mrs. Strickland died Wednesday, Aug. 11, in Tyler.

She was born March 14, 1927 in Jacksonville. She retired from teaching in 1987 from Jacksonville. She also taught in LaPoynor, Freeport and New Hope. She was the first coach to take a girls team to state. Mrs. Strickland was a member of Cove Spring Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband Bruce Strickland in 1990.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Kandie and Jon Bruckner of Tyler; a grandson; a sister, Ruby Lee Brown of Grandbury; a twin sister, Bobbie Smith of Jacksonville; a sister-in-law, Margaret Holcomb of Jacksonville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Johnny Reagan, Dale Cowan, Doyce Bearden, Edward Starling, Tommy Murray and Doyle Buckley.

Honorary pallbearers were members of the Class of 1944.

Jerry Mack Tipton

Funeral services for Jerry Mack Tipton, 62, of New Summerfield were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug 14, in the Thompson Funeral Home Chapel in Jacksonville with the Rev. G.C. Folmar officiating.

Burial was held at the McDonald Cemetery in New Summerfield under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home of Jacksonville.

Mr. Tipton died Tuesday, Aug. 10, in Tyler.

He was born March 25, 1942 in New Summerfield. Mr. Tipton was a self employed flooring installer. He was a member of the New Summerfield Church of Christ and served in the U.S Air Force.

Mr. Tipton was preceded in death by parents, Hollis and Opal Tipton; brothers, Harold Tipton, Ralph Tipton and Eugene Tipton; and a sister, Dorothy Birdwell.

Survivors include his wife, Wanda Tipton of New Summerfield; a son, Hollis Tipton of Frankston; daughters and sons-in-law, Kay and Steve Fisher, and Sandra and Roger Perry, all of Frankston; sisters, Betty Ivy and Louise Roper, both of New Summerfield; seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Roger Davis, Dennis Ivy, Marcus Roper, Eddie Birdwell, Waylon Tipton and Alvin Limbaugh.

Honorary pallbearers were Eddie Hasty, Brian Fisher, Roger Nolen and Bruce Ivy

Jack Lamar Warrington

PALESTINE — Funeral services for Jack Lamar Warrington, 79, of Palestine were held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 14, at Bailey & Foster Funeral Home, Palestine, with the Rev. Lyle Huntress and Judge Bascom Bentley officiating.

Burial was in Roselawn Park with arrangements under the direction of Bailey & Foster Funeral Home.

Mr. Warrington died Thursday, Aug. 12, in a Palestine nursing home.

He was born April 13, 1925 in Frankston to Jesse Ross Warrington and Lula Bell Purcel Warrington. Mr. Warrington was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army, and before retiring he had been a fireman for 35 years with the City of Palestine.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Fay Warrington in 2001; and a granddaughter, Aby Gayle Warrington.

He is survived by a daughter, Jackie Witter and husband Chris of Clear Lake; sons, Allen Warrington and wife Joyce of Tyler, James Warrington and wife Cathy of Galveston and Jeffrey Warrington of Palestine; sisters, Jean Reese and Jo Ann Johnson, both of Palestine; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Members of the Palestine Fire Department served as pallbearers.

Thomas A. “Tommy” Pickle

PALESTINE — Funeral services for Thomas A. “Tommy” Pickle, 85, of Palestine were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 24, in the Court Drive Church of Christ with sons, Thomas A. “Bud” Pickle, Robert C “Bob” Pickle and Mark Pickle officiating.

Burial was in the Cedar Creek Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of Bailey & Foster Funeral Home.

Mr. Pickle died Saturday, Aug. 21, in a Palestine nursing home

He was born Aug. 10, 1919 in Palestine to Voyle Carrie Pickle and Annie Pearl Moseley Pickle.

Mr. Pickle was a member of the Court Drive Church of Christ.

He was a captain in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He flew B-26 bombers on 63 missions in the Mediterranean Theatre, receiving numerous medals, decorations and citations.

Mr. Pickle served 40 years in the community as a banker for both Royall National Bank and First National Bank where he served in various roles including president and vice chairman, before retiring in 1985. He also served on the Palestine City Council and for 20 years was on the board of directors of Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Pickle was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Juanita Pickle; and brothers, Cecil Pickle and Voyle Pickle Jr.

Survivors include his wife, Geneva Lively Pickle of Palestine; children, Thomas A. “Bud” Pickle of Centerville, Robert C. “Bob” Pickle of Palestine, Deborah Ann Mueller of Anchorage, Alaska, Margie Danielle Wear of Fort Smith, Ark., Mark Pickle of Sugar Land; a sister, Ruby Huber of San Bernardino, Calif.; a brother, Lem Pickle of Palestine; 23 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren;

Pallbearers were grandsons.

Honorary pallbearers were Bruce Barber, Bill Brown, Klaus Kuehl, Ed Missildine, Joe Monk, Frank Moore, J.L. Parkman and Archie Waldrum.
