Here are the obituaries posted for the current month from information provided courtesy of local and area funeral homes and published on their websites or those submitted by families. Through arrangements with funeral homes and/or the families, we will publish pictures with current obituaries. We will add pictures to archived obituaries from the print version of The Citizen newspaper prior to September 2019 when available. Pictures with archived obituaries posted after that will be added in cooperation with funeral homes or on requests from families.  As was the tradition of the Citizen newspaper, obituaries are published at no charge.

Juanita “Squyres” Gage

Graveside services for Juanita “Squyres” Gage, 69, of Berryville were held Monday, June 11, 2012, at Garden Oaks Memorial Park in Berryville.

Services were under the direction of Autry Funeral Home in Frankston.

Mrs. Gage passed away Saturday, June 9, 2012, in Berryville.

She was born January 18, 1943, in Fairfield, Texas.

Mrs. Gage worked for Lone Star Steel Company for 18 years in mechanical tubing.

She is preceded in death by her husband Travis Gage; parents Tes Ezell Squyres and Hazel Congleton Squyres; and brother Willis Ray Squyres

Survivors include her sons Steve Staples and wife Robin of Navasota and Dwayne Staples and wife Becky of Daingerfield; sister Sue Daniel of Frankston; brother J. L. Squyres of Frankston; step-daughters Veleda Dutoit and husband Mark of Texarkana, Liz Brents and husband Greg of Troup and Jettie McWhorter and husband Scott of Flint; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.


Bertha Cook McAda

Funeral services for Bertha Cook McAda, 90, of Frankston, were held Monday, June 11, 2012, at Frankston Assembly of God, with the Rev. J.A. Griffin and the Rev. Michael Griffin officiating.

Burial was at Old Bethel Cemetery in Frankston.

Mrs. McAda passed away Friday, June 8, 2012, in Frankston.

She was born August 13, 1921, in Maypearl, Texas.

Mrs. McAda was a member of the Frankston Assembly of God, and was a seamstress in the textile industry.

She is preceded in death by her first husband John Q. Cook; parents James and Dora Patton; and two sons Troy Cook and Kenneth Eugene Cook.

Survivors include her husband Thomas McAda of Venus; son John Cook of Malakoff; daughters Sandra Costlow and husband Mack of Frankston and Patsy Chalk and husband Louis of Frankston; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Ken Cook, Michael Costlow, Mark Chalk, Justin Cook, Jordan Chalk, and Carson Chalk.

Honorary pallbearer was Stephen Chalk.


J. D. Jones

Services for J. D. Jones, 77, of Frankston were held Wednesday, June 20, 2012, at Lloyd James Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Forrest Bass officiating.  Burial was in Bullard Cemetery under direction of Lloyd James Funeral Home.

Mr. Jones passed away on Sunday, June 17, 2012, in Tyler.

He was born on June 13, 1934, in Whitehouse to the late Louis and Johnnie Alford Jones.  He was a retired painting contractor.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, cutting wood and riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years Mary Dell Jones; daughters Vickie Lynn Guinn and Donna A. Kilborn and husband Kenneth; grandson Gage Lee Guinn and a sister Pauline Blanton.  He is also survived by his nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Gage Guinn, Vincent Megason, David Bass, Johnny Goodrich, Tim Guinn and Kenneth Kilborn.


Naomi Ruth Hand Mitchell

Funeral services for Naomi Ruth Hand Mitchell, 88, of Frankston, were held Monday, June 25, 2012, at Autry Funeral Home chapel in Frankston with the Rev. George C. Folmar officiating.

Burial was at Old Bethel Cemetery in Frankston.

Mrs. Mitchell passed away Friday, June 22, 2012 in Tyler.

She was born March 26, 1924, in Ft. Bend County, Texas.

Mrs. Mitchell was a member of the Church of Christ and was a homemaker.

She is preceded in death by her sisters Levada Thornton, Edna Kendell, Mable Thornton and Madaline Sturdevant; and son Roger Bryan Mitchell.

Survivors include her husband Knox Mitchell; daughter Barbara Lang and husband Earl of Frankston; brother Ervin Dayton Hand of Berryville, AR; 7 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Mitchell Lang, Russell Lang, Ernie Varias, Robert Genuradi, Lee Yarman, Bryan Mitchell.

Honorary pallbearers were Justin Mitchell and Chris Flowers.
