Carl (Buster) Stringfield

A memorial service for Carl (Buster) Stringfield, 87, of Poynor will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 7, 2013, at Poynor Baptist Church with the Rev. J. A. Griffin, the Rev. Fred Neal, and the Rev. Jeff Godwin officiating.

Burial will take place at Poynor City Cemetery under the direction of Autry Funeral Home of Frankston.

Mr. Stringfield passed away March 4, 2013, at 6:40 a.m. under the care of The Hospice of East Texas. He was born Sept. 23, 1925, in Poynor to Doc and Jewel Stringfield.

Carl lived all of his life in the Poynor Community. He graduated from LaPoynor School and Henderson County Junior College and then went into the Air Force and was stationed at Iwo Jima.

He was recently featured on KLTV’s Freedom Fighters program with Joan Hallmark.  He enjoyed being interviewed and featured on the program as he talked about his war experience.  He was very proud of his service to his country.

Carl returned to LaPoynor Schools after his military service and became the head maintenance and bus mechanic for 45 years and was a valuable asset to them.  He retired from the school, but not the community. Carl continued to be a service to the Poynor Community by repairing appliances, etc. in his workshop behind his home.  He worked on a variety of things from a 100-year-old pendulum clock for the school, a doctor’s hydraulic chair, to a solar fish feeder.  He was a talented man that will be tremendously missed in his community.

Carl was an avid gardener, who grew the finest tomatoes in East Texas.  He enjoyed talking with others about his secrets to a successful garden.

On Aug. 12, 1946, Carl married the love of his life Marie Murphy and they had three children and have been married for 66 years.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents Dock and Jewel Stringfield; his brother Harrison Stringfield; his sister Bonnie Bayless; and his daughter Belinda Hardman.

He is survived by his loving wife Marie Stringfield of Poynor; daughter Debbie Coker and husband David of Bullard; son Wendell Stringfield and wife Bonnie of Poynor; son-in-law Johnny Hardman of Eastland; granddaughters Juli and Jessica Hardman of Eastland, Jennifer Montoya and husband Chris of Abilene, Christi Coker of Flint, Stephanie Mahler and husband Jorden of Katy, Lindsey Almeida and husband Anthony of Poynor; great grandson Evan Almeida of Poynor; and great granddaughter Bea Hardman of Eastland.

Carl was raised in a large family and is survived by his sisters Alyne Oden of Palestine, Nell Owen of Magnolia, Ark., Janie Berry of Palestine, and Jo McCalister and husband Bill of Lufkin; brothers Gayton Stringfield of Palestine and Robert Stringfield and wife Sue of Whitehouse; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Ben Haynes, John Pagitt, Jimmy Westbrook, Joe Dale Dickerson, Jamey Hyde, and Thomas Ray Pagitt.

Honorary pallbearers will be Marvin Holcomb, Richard Palmer, and Bennie Douglas.

Visitation was to have been held Wednesday, March 6, 2013, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Autry Funeral Home in Frankston.

The family wished to thank all their friends and family for the calls, cards, food, flowers and concern during Carl’s illness.

Pauline “Polly” Dansby

Graveside services for Pauline “Polly” Dansby, 84, of Dallas, formerly of Fincastle, were held Monday, March 11, 2013, at LaRue Cemetery in LaRue.

Ms. Dansby passed away Thursday, March 7, 2013, in Dallas.

She was born March 4, 1929, in Fincastle.

She was a member of Poynor Baptist Church.

She is preceded in death by her parents Bishop M. Dansby and Maude Williford Dansby; five brothers Hodge, Buddy, Clifton, Ferrell and Bruce; and two sisters Thelma and Dorothy.

Survivors include her sisters Madeleine Grube of Cedar Hill, and Robbie Barbaree of Hobbs, NM; and several nieces and nephews.

Louis “Louie” Derwood Burris

Louis “Louie” Derwood Burris, 58, of Jacksonville, and long-time Conroe, resident, lost his strong and courageous battle with cancer on Sunday, March 10, 2013, surrounded by family in Tyler. He was born on Jan. 12, 1955, in Seguin, to Cleburne L. and Catherine E. Burris, currently of Frankston.

Louie was a very simple man; mostly know for his strong work ethic. He worked for Discount Auto Parts in Conroe for over 20 years, and N.A.P.A. in Conroe and Jacksonville combined for over 10 years. Throughout his 14 month battle with pancreatic cancer, he rarely missed a day of work, working overtime and weekends, as recently as 3 weeks ago.

Louie was also known for the love he had for his family, especially his grandchildren. He was also a dedicated Texans football and NASCAR fan.

In addition to his parents, Louie is survived by his wife of 38 years Peggy; daughter Shelly Holloway and husband Steve of Humble; three sons Robert Horton of Jacksonville, Brandon Burris and wife Mandy of Willis, and Roy Burris of Conroe; grandchildren, Joshua and Cassie Holloway, Tyson and Mason Burris, Christian Horton, Brandon and William Salter, and Samantha Simmons; and great granddaughter Ailayna Holloway.

He is also survived by six siblings, brothers Lelon Burris of Frankston, Marion Burris and wife Janet of Huffman, and Kenneth Burris of Frankston; sisters Pat McCollister and husband Randy of Hornbeck, La., Brenda McMichael of Jacksonville, and Linda Hefelfinger and husband Rick of Frankston; uncle and namesake, L.D. Burris of Frankston; aunt Annie Capp; sister-in-law Carolyn Yeager of Jacksonville; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and close friends.

Memorial services will be held at Boren-Conner Funeral home in Jacksonville on at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 16, 2013. Graveside service will follow at Garden Oak Cemetery in Berryville.

Joan R. Perry

“Beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend rest in peace until we meet again.”

Joan R. Perry died March 15, 2013, at peace in her sleep in her home in Berryville.

She was born Aug. 13, 1949.

Services will be held at Hilltop Baptist Church in Berryville at 3 p.m. on Thursday, March 21.

She was preceded in death by her son Jason Andrew Perry and her husband James Andrew Perry.

She is survived by her daughters Tammy Lynn Butler of Frankston and R. L. Burns, Teresa Ann Perry and Troy Dean Baily of Cove Springs; sisters Juanita Sanburg and husband Larry of Dallas, Diane Monroe of Quinlin, Belvakay Underwood and Darlene Williams of Dallas; grandchildren Emmett Wayne Butler, Jessica Pearl Nash, Seth Green, Joshua J. Butler, Samantha Joan Roberts, Zach Johnson, Amber Nicole Adams, Haley Danielle Perry and Tru Whaley all of Frankston; great grandchildren Sadie Marie Nash, C. J. Nash, Blaine Andrew Johnson, Calli Alaine Nash and great grandson to be Grayson Lee Green all of Frankston.

She is also survived by close family friends J. P. Querry, Caleb Griffith and several nieces, nephews and friends.

Ellen Louise Brown

Funeral services for Ellen Louise Brown, 87, of Tyler, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, March 23, 2013, at First Baptist Church in Frankston with the Rev. Scott Wiley officiating. Services are under the direction of Autry Funeral Home.

Burial will be held at Maplewood Cemetery in Harrison, Arkansas at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 30, 2013.

At the young age of 87, Ellen Louise Brown left this world to be with our Lord on March 13, 2013 at 5:51 p.m. in her home in Rosewood Estates in Tyler.  

Ellen was born on July 23, 1925, in Anderson County. She was one of six children born to Ray and Gladys Lookabaugh.

Ellen graduated from Frankston High School in 1942. She married Meydon P. Lymbery, Jr. in Corpus Christi.  From this marriage she had two sons, Meydon “Don” P. Lymbery, III and Mark R. Lymbery.

From Corpus Christi, the family moved to Harrison, Arkansas, and lived in the North Arkansas area for the next ten years. She was widowed in 1959, after which she and her two young sons moved to Nacogdoches so she could enter Stephen F. Austin University to become a teacher. After graduation, she taught school at Robert E. Lee in Tyler, and while there she met and married her second husband, Clarence Brown.

From this marriage she had one daughter, Nancy Brown. She taught school and resided in Richardson, Texas until she retired back to East Texas. Ellen loved to oil paint and travel and made many trips around the United States and abroad.

Ellen is preceded in death by her parents Ray and Gladys Lookabaugh; her daughter Nancy Brown; and her siblings: Brient Ray Lookabaugh, John Mark (Bo) Lookabaugh, Mildred Bell, and Ruth Rawlings.

Ellen is survived by one sister Jane DiMambro of Tyler; two sons Meydon “Don” P. Lymbery, III and wife, Ginger of Lufkin, Mark R. Lymbery and wife, Vicky of Harrison, Arkansas; four grandchildren: Mark Lymbery and wife, Theresa of New York City, New York, David Lymbery of Nacogdoches, Rayna Smith and husband Koyte of Lufkin, and Taylor Lymbery and wife, Rachel of Denton; and five great grandchildren: Jakob Smith, Jayla Smith, Christopher Lymbery, Margot Lymbery and Emily Lymbery.

Ellen had a long life and she enjoyed it to the fullest. She had many friends and was loved by family and friends alike. She will be missed.

There will be a visitation from noon until service time Saturday, March, 23, 2013, at First Baptist Church, Frankston.

Sandra Kay Parrish Baston

Funeral services for Sandra Kay Parrish Baston were held Wednesday, March 20, 2013, at the Olive Branch Cemetery south of Frankston.

Sandra Kay Parrish Baston was born April 11, 1947, to Edna and Royce Parrish. She attended school at Frankston and then continued her education at Trinity Valley Community College. She worked in accounting.

On Sunday, March 17, 2013, at 2:53 p.m. God said, “Well done good and faithful servant. Enter into the joy of your Lord,” Matthew 25:21, and she entered her eternal home.

She was preceded in death by her husband Harold Baston; parents Henry Royce and Edna Lorene Parrish; brother Franklin Thomas Cooper; and sister Lena Lou Parrish Cook.

She is survived by special friend Ray Anderson of Pflugerville; son Lewis Kubicek of Georgetown; grandchildren Sandra Joe, Russell, Cheyenne and Joseph Kubick and two she loved and called her grandchildren Austin and Sydney and the mother of her grandchildren Tracie Frazier, all of Pflugerville; brother Marcellus Parrish and wife Elda of Frankston; sisters Eva Lee Rich of Terrell, Durlene Hennesey and husband Bob of Smithville and Frieda Brown and husband Lewis of Frankston; a number of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and great great nieces and nephews.

Gene Hughes

Memorial services for Gene Hughes 72, of Frankston, were held Saturday, March 23, 2013, at Hilltop Baptist Church in Berryville, with the Rev. George Folmar and the Rev. Ron Ivey officiating.

Services were under direction of Autry Funeral Home in Frankston.

Mr. Hughes passed away Wednesday, March 20, 2013, in Frankston.

He was born February 12, 1941, in Oakwood, Texas.

Mr. Hughes was a member of Hilltop Baptist Church and was a laundry supervisor for TDJC.

He is preceded in death by his daughter Mary Kaye Mathis and parents Aaron Hughes and Mary Alida Kirksey Hughes.

Survivors include his wife Judy Hughes of Frankston; son Don Hughes, Jr. of Concord NH; son-in-law Gary Mathis of Eastland; brother Gerald Hughes and wife Jolene of LaGrange; two grandchildren Eric Mathis and Erin Mathis; and several nieces and nephews.

Honorary pallbearers were Gordon Folmar, Gerald Peterson and Scott Rogers.

Sigfred “Sig” John Johnson

Funeral services for Sigfred “Sig” John Johnson, 88, of Berryville, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, March 29, 2013, at Autry Funeral Home chapel in Frankston.

Mr. Johnson passed away Sunday, March 24, 2013, in Frankston.

He was born March 27, 1924, in Chicago, IL.

Mr. Johnson was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church in Frankston, served in the United States Army during World War II, receiving the Purple Heart, and was a salesman in the awards and trophy business.

He is preceded in death by his parents Sigfred Jospeh Johnson and Mary Helen Schwantkowski Johnson; brother Joseph Johnson; sister Loretta Schmable and wife Jean Johnson.

Survivors include his special friend Millie Ballard of Frankston; son John “Al” Johnson and wife Mindy of Berryville; daughter Dr. Kathryn Riffe of Milan, TN; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, March 29, 2013, at Autry Funeral Home in Frankston.

Martha ”Mama” Standley

Funeral services for Martha ”Mama” Standley, 100, of Palestine, formerly of Frankston, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, March 29, 2013, at Autry Funeral Home chapel in Frankston with Glenn Cogburn officiating.

Burial will be held at Garden Oaks Memorial Park in Berryville.

Mrs. Standley passed away Tuesday, March 26, 2013, in Palestine.

She was born Sept. 25, 1912, in Braceville, Texas.

Mrs. Standley was a member of the Church of Christ, house mother at children’s home in Quinlan, and was an avid gardener.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 70 years Thomas Delbert Standley and brother Floyd Miller.

Survivors include her daughters Doris Carlisle of Palestine and LaVerne Christiansen and husband Gary of Caddo Mills; son Thomas D. Standley, Jr. of Bullard; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 28, at Autry Funeral Home in Frankston.
