Barbara Westbrook Carter

Services for Barbara Ann Westbrook Carter, 81, Poynor, were held Monday May 2, 2011, at the First Baptist Church Poynor with the Rev. Jeff Godwin, the Rev. Fred Neal, the Rev. Jim Boyte, and the Rev. Llowell Schochler officiating.

Burial was at City Cemetery in Frankston, under the direction of Autry Funeral Home of Frankston.

Barbara Ann Burks was born Sept. 26, 1929, in Frankston to J. Louie and Mary Lee Hardee Burks and passed away on April 29, 2011 in Tyler.

She was reared in Frankston and became an accomplished musician with her career having been centered around piano and public school liberal arts.

After graduating as Salutatorian from Frankston High School Class of 1947, she then earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Sam Houston State University.

She married J.M. “Billy” Westbrook, Jr. of Frankston in 1947 and they began their teaching careers in LaPoynor Independent School District, with Billy teaching agriculture and later becoming Superintendent of Schools.

Barbara taught private piano from 1949 to 1956, then taught public school music, junior high language arts, and directed the high school choir for 35 years retiring in May of 1993.

She was pianist and organist at First Baptist Church, Poynor from 1949 until her death. She also taught Sunday school classes for 38 years as well as being a church trustee for a majority of that time.

After being widowed for many years she and long time friend Charles Ray Carter married. They enjoyed travel and music events around the state.

She was honored on her 80th birthday and 60th anniversary as voluntary organist of the church on Sept. 26, 2009 with more than 400 people in attendance.

She was a lifetime member of the Texas State Teachers’ Assn., served on the Poynor City Council from 1981 until her death, a member of Delta Kappa Gamma teachers’ sorority, and helped organize and served on the first board of the Poynor Rural Water Supply for several years.

Barbara’s influence reached many parameters as she participated in hundreds of weddings, civic programs, funerals, and celebrations.

Barbara thoroughly enjoyed her life in “her corners” of Henderson and Anderson Counties and often stated she would rather live here than anywhere else on earth.

She was preceded in death by spouses, J. M. “Billy” Westbrook Jr. in 1977, Charles Ray Carter in 2008, and her parents.

Survivors include sons, Dr. Bill Westbrook and wife Rhonda, Steve Westbrook and wife Sandra, Chuck Carter and wife Christine, Rick Carter and wife Suzanne; grandchildren, John Westbrook and fiancé Jennifer Brown, Joey Westbrook, Kristen Westbrook, Wesley Westbrook, Trey Carter, Jeb Carter, Seth Carter; brothers, Gerald Burks and wife Barbara, Johnny Burks and wife Judy; special sister-in-law, Jean Westbrook Billingsley; special first cousin, Pattye Perry Bacon; mother-in-law, Opal Carter; sisters-in-law, Ruth D’Albergo and husband Arthur, Linda Askin; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Pallbearers were her grandchildren.

Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Richard Bishop, Josh Dickerson, Glenn Neal and all former students, faculty and staff of LaPoynor School 1949 – 1993.

Dwayne Lynn Dunn

Funeral services for Dwayne Lynn Dunn of Mountain Home, Arkansas, formerly of Frankston, were held Saturday, April 30, 2011 at Autry Funeral Home chapel in Frankston.

Burial followed at Wofford Cemetery near Frankston.

Dwayne went home to be with the Lord on Monday morning, April 25, 2011 at Blytheville, Arkansas, at the age of 49.

He was born July 29, 1961 in Crockett, Texas.

Dwayne is survived by his two children, Leslie Nicole Dunn and Matthew Ryan Dunn; his parents, Preston, Sr. and Bertha Dunn; one brother and sister-in-law, Preston, Jr. and Dorothy Dunn; one sister and brother-in-law, Sabrina and Jeff Waltemeyer; two nephews, Joe Huff and Preston L. Dunn, III; two nieces, Kimberly (Nathan) Alloway and Angela Dunn; two great-nephews, Aiden and Asher Alloway and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Pallbearers were William Morrison, Jerry Wayne McLeod, Steven McLeod, Michael McLeod, Preston L. Dunn, III and Joe Huff.

Memorials may be made to the Arkansas Children’s Hospital.

Alice Isabelle Stevens Walker

Funeral services for Alice Isabelle Stevens Walker, 94, of Frankston were held Saturday, April 30, at First Baptist Church in Frankston with the Rev. Scott Wiley, the Rev. Michael Griffin and Robin Puckett officiating.

Burial was held at Frankston City Cemetery.

Services were under the direction of Autry Funeral Home in Frankston.

Mrs. Walker passed away Tuesday, April 26, 2011 in Tyler.

Alice Isabelle Stevens Walker was born July 11, 1916 in Mexia to Robert Ray and Dora Mae Stevens who were farmers near Mexia. She grew up and went to school in Mexia where she met and married Clarence S. Ross on December 30, 1933. Roy S. Ross was born on October 4, 1934 and Robert J. Ross on December 18, 1940. Roy was born in Mexia, and Robert (Bob) was born in Jacksonville, Texas.

Clarence Ross was killed in World War II February 20, 1945 on Mt. Belveerdere in Italy.

Alice married Calvin Cooledge Campbell on December 30, 1949 in Frankston and had Guy Thomas Campbell on February 5, 1954 and Gordon K. Campbell on April 27, 1955. Calvin (Buddy) Campbell was born October 30, 1924 in Frankston and served in World War II. He died in March 1974. Then Alice married Charles A. Walker on February 20, 1971 and he passed away on July 25, 1990.

Alice was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Frankston, where she attended Sunday school and church faithfully. She never waivered in her Christian faith. She loved the Lord with all her heart.

She was formerly a seamstress at Marja’s Brassiere in Jacksonville.

She is preceded in death by her parents Robert Ray Stevens and Dora Mae Williams Stevens; brothers David Stevens, Robert Stevens, Joe Stevens and Jimmy Stevens; and sister Ann Meredith.

Survivors include children Roy Ross and wife Mona of Cove Springs, Robert Ross and wife Brooke of Dallas, Guy Thomas Campbell of Frankston and Gordon K. Campbell and wife Sue of Frankston; sisters Mary Wofford and husband Reagan of Henderson, Betty White and husband Butch of Mexia and Robbie Rinehart of Dennison; grandchildren Heath Thomas Campbell, Judd Stevens Campbell, Cash K. Campbell, Mark Ross, Linda Brandon, Alice Weissman, Ray Ross, Kimberly Poe and Robin Puckett; nine great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Heath Campbell, Cash Campbell, Judd Campbell, Mark Ross, Ray Ross, Nieman Poe, Mitch Puckett, Jim Smith, Tony Campbell, John McGuffey, Jamey Hyde, Mark Bostick, and Larry Ferguson.

Charles H. Green Sr.

Funeral services for Charles H. Green Sr., 74, of Bertram, Texas are scheduled for 2 p.m., Friday, May 13, 2011, in the Autry Funeral Home Chapel in Frankston. Officiating will be J. A. Griffin.

Burial will be held at Liberty Hill Cemetery in Frankston.

Mr. Green passed away Friday, May 6, 2011 in Burnet, Texas.

He was born Feb. 21, 1937 in Henderson County to the late John Elton Green and Thirsey Clakley Green.

Mr. Green was a retired superintendent of a highway construction company. He was in the United States Army during the Korean conflict.

He is preceded in death by his sister Sandra Little and brother John E. Green Jr.

Survivors include his loving wife, Fay Green of Bertram; daughters Sheryl Dix and husband Larry of Fredericksburg, Va. and Tracie Helms of Round Rock; son Charles H. (Chuck) Green Jr. and wife LeAnn of Lago Vista, Texas; eight grandchildren Joshua Dix, Kelsey Dix, Amanda Green, Jared Dix, Jacob Helms, Brianna Green, Thomas Helms, Rebecca Helms, Ryan Berlin and Britney Berlin; sisters Barbara Creel, Mary Davis, and Lynda Walker all of Texas and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday, May 12, 2011 at Autry Funeral Home in Frankston.

Kendrick L. Clark

Services for Kendrick L. Clark, 23, of Poynor, were held Saturday, May 14, at LaPoynor High School with the Rev. Jerry Payne officiating.

Burial followed in Pleasant Hill Cemetery under the direction of John R. Harmon Undertaking Company in Tyler.

Clark died in a motorcycle accident May 10, 2011, in Tyler.

He was born Oct. 21, 1987, in Athens and was a lifelong resident of Poynor.

He graduated from LaPoynor High School in 2006 and served in the U.S. Navy.

He had a yellow belt in Tae Kwan Do and was studying business management at Tyler Junior College.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Andie Clark.

Survivors include his son Sean Walker Clark of Poynor; daughters Emmaleigh Brooke Clark of Poynor and MaKenzie Clark of Tyler; parents Ricky L. Clark of Poynor and Jan Dickerson of Frankston; brother Ryan Clark of Poynor; half brother Demetric Lyons of Jacksonville; paternal grandmother Annie R. Clark of Poynor and special friend Leah Hanna of Whitehouse.

Nelda Jean House Folmar

Funeral services for Nelda Jean House Folmar, 77, of Mesquite, were held Wednesday, May 25, 2011, at Autry Funeral Home chapel in Frankston with the Rev. George Folmar and the Rev. J. A. Griffin officiating.

Burial was held at Liberty Hill Cemetery, Frankston.

Nelda Jean House Folmar was born on December 12, 1933, to Carl Joe House and Nellie Ray Bussey House.

Nelda went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and loved ones who preceded her at 5 p.m. Sunday, May 22, 2011.

Mrs. Folmar was a beautician.

She is preceded in death by her father Carl Joe House and mother Nellie Ray House Martin, stepfather James Carl Martin and sister Golda Lucille Martin Dickerson.

Survivors include husband James (Jim) Folmar of Mesquite; sons Jerry Michael Folmar and wife Janet of Houston and Terry Mark Folmar of Mesquite; three grandchildren Michael Allen Folmar and wife Angela, Jessica Renee Folmar Brown and husband Derrick, James Russell Folmar and wife Elizabeth along with eight great-grandchildren; brothers James Lloyd House and wife Imogene of Garland, George Rodrick House and wife Mildred of Garland and Larry Joe House and wife Ann of Frankston; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Pallbearers were Michael Folmar, Jimmy Folmar, Derrick Brown, Carl House, Joey Dickerson and Mike Miller.

April Alspach

Funeral services for April Alspach, 32, of Kyle, were scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday, May 26, 2011 at Autry Funeral Home chapel in Jacksonville with the Rev. Wilson Welch officiating.

Burial was to be held at Earle’s Chapel Cemetery in Jacksonville.

Ms. Alspach passed away Saturday, May 21, 2011 in Kyle.

She was born May 21, 1979 in Maquoketa, Iowa.

Ms. Alspach was a Baptist and a massage therapist.

She is preceded in death by her grandparents Mercedes and Richard Snowberger and father Thomas Snowberger.

Survivors include mother and step-father Carol and Billy Darnell of Frankston; brothers Michael Darnell of Frankston and Eric Sexton and wife Tina of Paris; sisters Angela Powell and husband Jason of Muscatine, IA, Ashley Darnell of Frankston, Robin Alspach Sloan and husband Mark of Lafayette, IN and Jessie of Conroe; and nieces Rylee Darnell and Macie Darnell.

Pallbearers will be Rusty Franklin, Steven Miller Jr., Alex Caddell, Brandon Swinney, Brandon Woods, Roger Nolen Jr., Dustin Jones, J. C. Jones and Jerry Bradley Jr.

The family was to receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 25, 2011, at Autry Funeral Home in Jacksonville.

Elizabeth Ann Ellis Dunklin

In Loving Memory of Elizabeth Ann Ellis Dunklin, a native of Frankston, whose funeral services were held on Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at Cashner Colonial Chapel with interment following at Garden Park Cemetery in Conroe, Texas.

Elizabeth Ann Ellis Dunklin of Conroe, 76, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 26, 2011 in Conroe due to complications from dementia. She was born August 19, 1934 in Frankston.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Oliver Clyde Ellis and Amanda Elizabeth Simpson Ellis, and her brother, Ralph Clifton Ellis, all of Frankston.

Elizabeth graduated from Tyler Junior College, the University of Texas at Austin, and Sam Houston State Teachers College.

Elizabeth was a longtime educator at Anderson Elementary School in Conroe ISD, a former board member of Montgomery County Children’s Protective Services Board and a tireless volunteer for organizations serving families and children.

She was survived by her husband, James H. Dunklin. Also surviving are daughter and son-in-law, Margaret and Sammy Clary, and son, David Dunklin, all of Conroe and Frankston and mother-in-law Madeline “Susie” Dunklin of Frankston. “Mimi” is also survived by her beloved grandchildren, Laurel McManus, Sarah Clary, Davis Dunklin, Mason Dunklin and Ryan Thurmond.

Serving as pallbearers were Sammy Clary, Robbie McManus, Bennie Steel, Wayne Gerhart and her nephews Keith Ellis and Kevin Ellis.

Serving as honorary pallbearers were Doug Pitts, Joe Arnold, and grandchildren.
