Here are the obituaries posted for the current month from information provided courtesy of local and area funeral homes and published on their websites or those submitted by families. We will add pictures to archived obituaries from the print version of The Citizen newspaper prior to September 2019 when available. Pictures with archived obituaries posted after that will be added in cooperation with funeral homes or on requests from families.  As was the tradition of the Citizen newspaper, obituaries are published at no charge.

Charles Christian

Funeral services for Charles Christian, 76, of Montalba were held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 5, at Montalba Baptist Church with the Rev. Rod Shelton officiating.

Burial followed in Brushy Creek Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of Bailey & Foster, Palestine.

Mr. Christian died Sunday night, Sept. 1, at Spring Season Nursing Home in Elkhart.

He was born Nov. 15, 1925 in Texarkana, Ark. to the late S. (Vestor) and Margaret Hampton Christian.

Mr. Christian was raised in Brushy Creek. He attended school there and at Frankston High School where he played football and was active in FFA.

He attended Texas A&M and Sam Houston State University where he obtained a degree in agriculture. He served in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific during WWII. He earned several medals including the Purple Heart.

His job in petroleum management took him to Arcadia, La. where he lived for 25 years. He owned a Sears store and was active in the Lion’s Club, Baptist Church and other community activities. He retired from Chevron before returning to East Texas.

Mr. Christian has been active in the Montalba Baptist Church where he went to Honduras on his 74th birthday, with the Baptist Men’s organization. He helped to rebuild houses after the Hurricane Mitch in 1999.

Mr. Christian was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife of 51 years, Betty Jean.

He is survived by sons and their wives, Charles Wade Jr. and Jana Christian of Wimberly, Danny and Cindy of Onalaska, Robert H. and Sara of Algona, Iowa.; grandchildren, Bill of Louisiana, Charles Wade III, Brett, Catherine and Jacob Christian of Wimberly, Jennifer Williams of Longview, Brian Campbell, and Breanna Campbell of Onalaska, and Tommy and Michaela Christian of Algona, Iowa; three great-grandchildren; brothers, John E. Christian of Palestine, Fred I. Christian of Shreveport, La.; sisters, Clara (Totsy) Christian Linnard of Tyler, and Mary Christian Moore of Palestine; as well as nieces, nephews and many friends.

Pallbearers were Mark Norman, Arvil Patton, Brady Brownlow, Will Brownlow, Walter Dunavent and Don Blount.

Arlus Lynn Cobb

Funeral services for Arlus Lynn Cobb, 69, of Chandler, formerly of Garland, were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, at Green Funeral Home in Ferris.

Burial was in Ferris Memorial Park North.

Mr. Cobb died Monday, Aug. 26.

He was a retired employee of E-Systems after 42 years.

He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Susan and James Matthews of Frankston; a son, Leslie N. Cobb of Frankston; sisters and brothers-in-law, Wanda N. Whitton of Canton, Shirley J. and Kenneth B. Taylor of Chandler, Mary and Bruce Priddy of Mesquite; one grandson, Garry N. Shubert Jr. of Tyler; three granddaughters, Tiffany P. Shubert of Forney, Hayley N. Sumrall of Frankston and Amber N. Matthews of Red Oak; great-grandson, Austin N. Shubert of McKinney; and many nieces and nephews.

Lottie L. (Bobbie) Telford

Graveside services for Lottie L. (Bobbie) Telford, 92, of Odessa, mother of a Frankston man, were held Saturday, Aug. 31, in Odessa.

Mrs. Telford died Thursday, Aug. 29.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Odessa, the George Knauff Rebekah Lodge 119 and the Royal Neighbors of America.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Robert H. Telford.

Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Robert D. and Mertie Telford of Frankston, Henry E. and Mickey Telford; a daughter-in-law, Delores Telford of Odessa; six grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, two step-great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Odessa Rash

Graveside services for Odessa Rash, 97, of Odessa, formerly of Frankston, were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10, at the Frankston City Cemetery with the Rev. Eddie Hilburn officiating. Services were under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home of Frankston.

Mrs. Rash died Wednesday, Sept. 4, in Odessa.

She was born March 18, 1905 in Gallatin. Mrs. Rash was a homemaker and member of First Baptist Church, Frankston.

Mrs. Rash was preceded in death by her husband, Dez Rash in 1969.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Billy Jack and Betty Rash of Odessa; two grandchildren, Manda Rash of Austin and Kathy Moose of Matagorda; and several nieces and nephews.

Frankie M. Yarbrough

Funeral services for Frankie M. Yarbrough, 73, of Frankston, were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, in the Thompson Funeral Home Chapel in Frankston. Burial was at the LaRue Cemetery.

Mrs. Yarbrough died Tuesday, Sept. 10 in Tyler.

She was born April 7, 1929 in Stroud, Okla. She was a homemaker and a member of the Community Church in Berryville and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW 5073 in Frankston.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Linda Johnston.

Survivors include her husband, Henry Yarbrough, Frankston; daughters, Brenda Lowrance, Fort Worth and Gloria Darling, Barstow, Calif.; a brother, James H. Allen, Frankston; sisters, Betty Wright, Denver City, Tex. and Laverne Erbes, Reed City, MI.; eight grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Earnest Lowrance, Zachariah Lowrance, Clifton Coleman, Cecil Anderson, Bob Jennings, Aaron Wilhoit and Buddy Nolen.

R. Andrew Harrison

Funeral services for infant R. Andrew Harrison were held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, at the Denson Springs Missionary Baptist Church with Revs. Chuck Johnston and Danny Watkins officiating.

Burial was in Denson Springs Cemetery under the direction of Bailey & Foster, Palestine.

The infant died Wednesday, Sept. 11, at a Palestine hospital.

He was born May 19, 2002 in Jacksonville to Penny Denise of Rusk and Charlie Harrison of Denson Springs.

He is survived by his parents; grandparents, Johnny and Renee Watkins of Elkhart, Guy and Janet Harrison of Denson Springs and Amy Renvik of Bellville; great-grandparents, Marion Watkins of Denson Springs, Leonard and Joyce Christmas of Elkhart, Florence Schoppe of Houston, Bitsie Harrison of Houston and Nifa Harrison of Houston; great-great-grandmother, Verda Ward of Grandview; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Pallbearers were Billy Wayne Harrison and Daniel Watkins.

Memorials may be made to William Foster Lodge No. 312 of Frankston.
