Neches Lady Tigers defeat Blum 3-0
for state 1A volleyball title Nov. 21
The Neches Lady Tigers are coming home with a third straight Class A State Volleyball Championship after defeating Blum 3-0 in the state finals Saturday, Nov. 21 at the Culwell Center in Garland.
The Lady Tigers did what they had done in every playoff match on the way to the finals. They won in three straight sets. This time it was 25-20, 25-19, 25-12.
The Lady Tigers had been seeking a “three-peat” after having won back-to-back state championships in the past two years.
Neches had defeated all teams, AA and A, in District 21-AA, posting an impressive 14-0 record. They proceeded as the top seed in the Class A playoffs, having defeated other Class A teams in the district, and never lost a set as they progressed 3-0 through matches with Burkeville, Chester, Avery, Cumby Miller Grove and D’hanis, according to Head Coach Jenna Jenkins.
The coach recalled that Neches drew a bye in the first round, but in Area competition they swept Burkeville in all three sets 25-6, 25-8, 25-10. In the Regional Quarterfinals, it was 25-7, 25-7, 25-5 against Chester. Then in the Regional Semifinals they won over Avery 25-10, 25-7, 25-10. They defeated Cumby Miller Grove 25-16, 25-11, 25-16 in the Regional Finals and earned a trip to the finals defeating D’hanis 25-13, 25-6, 25-11 in the State Semifinals.
“This has been an amazing season,” Coach Jenkins said. “These girls came into the first day of two-a-days with one goal in mind, to win a third consecutive state championship, and they worked hard and made it happen. They are wonderful athletes and great people, and it has been an absolute blessing to be their coach this season.”
The coach said the Lady Tigers will lose six talented seniors and will be working hard to rebuild next season.
Seniors are 5-6 Emily Hill, 5-3 Nayeli Quistian, 5-10 Lexi Rogers, 5-10 Kacie Kimbrough, 5-8 Riley Catchot and 5-7 Raegan Hill.
“Don’t count us out, though,” Coach Jenkins predicted. “We will look a lot different in November than we do in August next year.”
The coach sees potential in returning players, including dominant 5-11 junior outside hitter Kourtney Mannix and defensive specialist junior Mallory Main who will transition smoothly into the libero position. Sophomore 5-9 right side Emily Docteur, a hard hitter, will slide over to fill an outside or middle hitter position; sophomore Kingsley Gordon will step in as a full-time defensive specialist and possibly help out with setting, Coach Jenkins said. Also returning will be freshman defensive specialist Jessi Sumpter and freshman outside hitter Juliana Carrizales, she said.

Maidens play Normangee tough
early but fall in AA bi-district
The Frankston Maidens made it tough on Normangee for the first two sets Thursday night, Oct. 29 but came up short in the Class AA bi-district round of the state playoffs 3-0.
The Maidens had to be disappointed that they could not advance further in the playoffs, but they had much for which to be proud after an 11-3 season in District 21-AA and first place among AA teams in the district.
The team will be looking forward to district honors later.
Against Normangee, the Maidens stayed tough in the first and second sets before losing 20-25 and 23-25. In the third set, Normangee pulled away for a 13-25 win to clinch the victory.
It was the final volleyball game for five seniors whose spirited leadership helped in the winning season. They are Melany Pizano, Whitney Jordan, Emily Bizzell, Abbie Ramsey and Eryn Pryor.
Coach Lisa Hokit expressed her feelings about her team: “I am so proud of the work the girls put in this season. They accomplished so much and even though the season ended earlier than we wanted, it was still successful. The seniors will be missed. They have set the bar for future Maiden volleyball teams.
Among individual leaders for the Maidens, Eryn Pryor had two aces. Emily Bizzell had 7 kills, Abbie Ramsey and Haidyn Hokit 5 each, Tia Billingsley 3, Maggie Caveness and Gracie Roark 2 kills and a block each. Hokit had 11 assists and Ramsey 9. Melany Pizano had 9 digs, Ramsey and Brianna Looney 8 each, Billingsley 7, Hokit 4, Emily Bizzell 3 and Bandy Bizzell 2.
The 2020 Frankston Maidens varsity volleyball team has won first place over AA teams in District 21-AA and went to the first round of the state Class AA playoffs against District 22-AA fourth place team, Normangee.
Maidens defeat Trinidad in finale

The Frankston Maidens ended their volleyball regular season with a 3-0 victory Saturday, Oct. 24 over the Trinidad Lady Trojans in second place in District 21-AA and with a first seed in the Class AA state playoffs.
The Maidens played the fourth place team from District 22, Normangee, on Thursday, Oct. 29 in Elkhart at 6 p.m. in the first round of the AA playoffs.
The Maidens posted a 11-3 record against both AA and A teams and with an 7-1 record against AA teams to lead in that class.
Against Trinidad the Maidens took the first set 25-10, fought off a persistent Trinidad team in the second set 25-15 and secured their win of the match in the third set with a 25-12 score.
Individual leaders among the Maidens were Haidyn Hokit with 12 aces, Whitney Jordan 5 and Abbie Ramsey 2. Gracie Roark had 5 kills and 2 blocks, Ramsey, Hokit and Eryn Pryor 4 kills each, Bandy Bizzell, Tia Billingsley and Maggie Caveness 3 each, and Emily Bizzell 2 and 1 block. Ramsey had 11 assists, Hokit 8 and Emily Bizzell 2. Ramsey had 15 digs, Melany Pizano 7, Bandy Bizzell, and Brianna Looney 4 each, and Billingsley and Hokit 2 each.
Indians seeking spot in Class AA playoffs
with 40-34 win over Linden-Kildare
The Frankston Indians took one more step toward assuring a Class AA playoff spot Friday night, Oct. 30 with an impressive 40-34 victory over the Linden-Kildare Tigers.
The Indians impressed with 483 yards rushing and 153 yards passing during the contest.
Frankston scoring began as senior quarterback Brink Bizzell kept the football to run for a touchdown and later passed to Clayton Merritt for another score. Along the way Merritt booted an extra point,
The Tigers scored a touchdown of their own and a two-point conversion.
At the end of the first quarter it was 13-8, Frankston.
The Indian scoring continued in the second quarter as Bizzell handed off to junior running back K.J. Hawkins who ran for a score and found junior Cael Bruno with a TD pass. Merritt kicked true twice.
Linden-Kildare scored a couple of times themselves to make the score 27-20 going into the locker room at halftime with the Indians on top.
The Tigers were to take a brief lead over the Indians early in the second half, going ahead 28-27. However Indian quarterback Bizzell answered with an 18-yard scoring pass to Tyler Fridinger to regain the lead 34-28 with Merritt booting the PAT.
Scoring in the fourth quarter was limited but Indian running back Hawkins padded the Indian lead with a TD run to put the Tribe ahead 40-28.
The Tigers were not finished scoring, however, as they put together a late drive to narrow the Indian victory to 40-34.
The Indian offense had a big night, led by K.J. Hawkins’ 267 yards rushing on 26 carries and two touchdowns. Quarterback Bizzell added to the rushing total with 207 yards on 13 carries and a TD.
Bizzell added to his total offense with 153 yards passing and three touchdowns. He completed 10 of 14 passing attempts and had only one interception.
Cael Bruno led receivers with four catches for 92 yards. Clayton Merritt caught two passes for 21 yards and a touchdown and Tyler Fridinger caught an 18-yard pass for a score. Kody Loebig caught two passes totaling 12 yards and K.J Hawkins caught one for 10 yards.
The Indians, now tied with Carlisle at 3-2 in district action, will close out their regular season Friday night, Nov. 6 against a formidable Beckville team which occupies second place at 4-1 in the district standings. They defeated Big Sandy 59-0 on Friday night. Their only loss came at the hands of district leader Hawkins who the Indians led until six seconds left in the game.
Maidens defeat Cross Roads 3-0
to solidify AA lead in district
The Frankston Maidens solidified their dominance among Class AA volleyball teams in District 21-AA Tuesday, Oct. 20 with a 3-0 win over Cross Roads.
The Maidens started out the match with a strong 25-15 win. The second set was not as easy but they took that one 25-20. In the third set, they duplicated their first set margin by winning 25-15.
The Frankston girls increased their record over their AA counterparts in the district to 7-1 in their quest for a first seed in the AA playoffs. However, they need a win against Class A Trinidad to put the finishing touches on an impressive season. The Maidens are now 10-3 in overall district play.
Among individual leaders for the Maidens Haidyn Hokit had 9 aces, and Abbie Ramsey, Whitney Jordan and Maggie Caveness 3 each. Emily Bizzell had 7 kills, Ramsey 6, Tia Billingsley 5, Eryn Pryor and Gracie Roark 3 each and Bandy Bizzell, Hokit and Caveness 2 each. Ramsey had 13 assists and Hokit 11. Ramsey and Melany Pizano had 8 digs each, Brianna Looney 5, Billingsley 4, Pryor 3, and Hokit, Emily Bizzell, Jordan, and Caveness 2 each.
District Certification is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 27 when playoff seeding for both AA and A teams in the district will be determined. District honors will be decided at a later time.
Kerens comeback foils Maidens
3-2 in battle of Class AA teams
The Frankston Maidens varsity volleyball team suffered their first loss against Class AA teams in District 21-AA at Kerens Friday, Oct. 16.
The Frankston girls, now 6-1 against AA teams, are hoping they can win out in the two final district games, one a contest against AA Cross Roads. The loss to Kerens results in a 9-3 overall record for the Maidens against both AA and A teams. Prior to the Kerens loss, they had only lost twice to two-time state Class A champion Neches, a team in the district but competing for another appearance in the Class A playoffs.
In the match with Kerens, the Maidens lost a hotly contested first set to the Lady Bobcats 20-25 but they bounced back in the second and third sets with wins of 25-20 and 25-16. They only needed a win in one more set to take the match, but an inspired Kerens comeback in the fourth and fifth sets, 9-25 and 5-15, spoiled the Maidens’ plans. The Maidens had defeated Kerens in the first round with a comeback of their own in the third and deciding set.
Some first set individual statistics were not available. Here are the statistics available: Abbie Ramsey, Haidyn Hokit and Eryn Pryor each had 3 aces and Emily Bizzell 2. 6-0 against AA teams in 21-AA
The Frankston Maidens remained undefeated Tuesday, Oct 13 against AA teams in District 21-AA as they defeated Grapeland 3-0.
The Maidens are 9-2 overall in the district, 6-0 against AA teams and 3-2 against Class A teams competing in the district. Their only losses in district were to two-time state Class A champion Neches, who are favorites to go to the Class A playoffs again. The Maidens are aiming for a first seed in the Class AA playoffs.
The Maidens got off to a slow start in the first set against Grapeland, falling behind early, but they picked up their game to take a 25-20 win. The second and third sets were dominated by the Maidens as they won 25-14 and 25-13.
Among individual leaders were Eryn Pryor with 3 aces, Abbie Ramsey and Melany Pizano 2 each. Maggie Caveness had 8 kills, Tia Billingsley and Emily Bizzell 5 each, Ramsey, Haidyn Hokit and Gracie Roark 3 each. Roark had 2 blocks. Ramsey had 14 assists and Hokit 13. Ramsey had 12 digs, Pizano 10, Brianna Looney and Pryor 5 each and Billingsley 4.
Prior to the varsity match, the Maiden JV won 2-0 over their Grapeland counterparts, taking the sets 25-14, 25-7.
Next on the Maiden schedule is a trip to Kerens on Friday, Oct. 16 with action scheduled for junior varsity and varsity at 4:30 p.m. Then on Tuesday, Oct. 20, the Maidens will play their final district match against a AA team when they go to Cross Roads. JV and varsity matches begin at 5 p.m. On Saturday, Oct. 24, they complete the entire regular season schedule when they host Class A Trinidad at 11 a.m., in a schedule change..
Maidens sweep Oakwood 3-0
in match with Class A team
The Frankston Maidens boosted their season record to 8-2 and their mark against Class A teams in the district to 3-2 when they defeated Oakwood 3-0 in a match Saturday, Oct. 10 at the Frankston gym.
The Maidens dominated the first set 25-11 and then scored 25-16 in each of the last two sets to win the match.
Among Maiden individual leaders were Eryn Pryor with 8 aces Whitney Jordan with 4 and Abbie Ramsey 3. Tia Billingsley had 7 kills, Gracie Roark 5 and Haidyn Hokit, Brianna Looney, Maggie Caveness and Emily Bizzell, each with 3. Caveness had two blocks. Ramsey had 14 assists and Hokit 10. Melany Pizano had 14 digs, Looney 13, Ramsey 7, Billingsley 5 and Emily Bizzell 3.
The Maidens went against a AA team in the district when they hosted Grapeland Tuesday, Oct. 13 at the FHS gym. Then on Friday, Oct. 16, they journey to Kerens for another AA team matchup.
Maidens win over AA Cayuga 3-1
in hotly contested match Oct. 6
The Cayuga Lady Wildcats forced the Frankston Maidens into four sets before the Maidens took a 3-1 win Tuesday, Oct. 6 to start the second round of play, undefeated against AA teams in District 21-AA.
The Maidens had their problems against the persistent play of the Lady Wildcats, taking only a 25-20 win in the first set. However, they came back strong in the second set to win 25-15.
Apparently Cayuga was not ready to go home because they came out strong in the third set, forcing the Maidens to come from behind, but not by enough. Cayuga edged out a win 23-25.
The Maidens seemed to pick up the pace in the final set, moving out to an early lead, but Cayuga was still persisting in the set before the Maidens surged out for a 25-16 win.
Among leaders for the Maidens were Haidyn Hokit with 6 aces, Eryn Pryor 5 and Gracie Roark 4. Pryor and Tia Billingsley had 8 kills each, Gracie Roark 5 kills and 2 blocks, Hokit, Abbie Ramsey and Emily Bizzell 4 kills each, Maggie Caveness 4 kills and 2 blocks, Bandy Bizzell 3 kills and 2 blocks and Brianna Looney 3 kills. Ramsey had 24 assists and Hokit 13. Melany Pizano had 11 digs, Looney and Hokit 10 each, Ramsey 8 and Billingsley 7.
The victory made the Maidens’ record 5-0 against AA teams in the district and 7-2 overall in district play.
Next, the Maidens host Class A Oakwood in a varsity match Saturday, Oct. 10 at 10 a.m. at the Frankston gym. They had defeated Oakwood in the first round.
Then on Tuesday Oct. 13, the Maidens go back into action against another AA team when they host Grapeland. JV and varsity matches are scheduled to begin at 5 p.m., according to the current schedule.

The Frankston Maidens were playing the two-time state Class A volleyball champions Friday, Oct. 2, but that didn’t seem to bother them, fans observed
The Maidens were judged to have played what may have been their best match of the year, but the formidable Neches team secured the win in three sets.
In the first set, the Lady Tigers prevailed 14-25, but in the second set, the Maidens made it tougher 17-25. Neches showed their championship credentials in the winning set 10-25.
Among Maiden leaders, Abbie Ramsey, Emily Bizzell and Eryn Pryor each served an ace. Gracie Roark had 4 kills and 5 blocks, Tia Billingsley had 3 kills and 1 block and Ramsey had a kill and a block. Ramsey had 5 assists and Haidyn Hokit 4. Billingsley had 7 digs, Ramsey and Melany Pizano 6 each, Pryor and Brianna Looney 5 each and Bandy Bizzell 3.
The loss to Neches made the Maidens overall District 21-AA record 6-2 and a 2-2 record against Class A teams designated in the district. They had defeated Oakwood and Trinidad but lost twice to the talented Neches team.

The Frankston Maidens extended their District 21-AA record to 6-1 and their mark against the Class A teams designated in the district to 2-1 Tuesday, Sept. 29 at Trinidad.
The Frankston girls took all three sets in the match, dominating in two of the three 25-14, 25-19 and 25-13.
Among individual leaders for the Maidens were Gracie Roark with 4 aces and Emily Bizzell, Whitney Jordan and Melany Pizano with 3 each. Maggie Caveness had 8 kills, Tia Billingsley 4 and Emily Bizzell 3. Caveness had 4 blocks. Abbie Ramsey had 10 assists and Haidyn Hokit 4. Ramsey had 9 digs, Pizano 8, Brianna Looney 5 and Roark 3.
The Maidens began the second round of play in the district on Friday, Oct. 2 at Class A Neches. Junior varsity and varsity matches are scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m.

The Frankston Maidens volleyball team increased their record against Class AA teams in District 21-AA Saturday, taking all three sets of a match with Cross Roads on Saturday, Sept. 26.
The Maidens have an overall record of 5-1 over teams designated in the district. They are 4-0 against Class AA teams and 1-1 against Class A teams in the district.
The Maidens had defeated Oakwood on Sept. 15 but lost to Neches on Friday, Sept 25, in a rescheduled match.
Against Class AA Cross Roads, the Maidens took all three sets, winning the first set narrowly 25-23, but then more convincingly winning the other two sets 25-14 and 25-19.
The Maidens need to defeat the four other AA teams in the district again in the second round to assure the first seed in AA playoff action.

On Tuesday, Sept. 29 the Maidens journey to Trinidad to finish out the first round against Class A teams. The varsity match is scheduled for 5 p.m..
They begin the second round of play in the district on Friday, Oct. 2 at Class A Neches. Junior varsity and varsity matches are scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m.

Maidens first loss in district play, 3-0
The Frankston Maidens suffered their first District 21-AA loss Friday, Sept. 25 as defending Class A state champion Neches took all three sets in volleyball action at the Frankston High School gym.
Neches defeated the Maidens 9-25, 12-25, 15-25 to take the match.
Among individual leaders for the Maidens, Whitney Jordan and Gracie Roark had 2 aces. Tia Billingsley had 4 kills and Maggie Caveness and Roark had 2 each. Roark and Emily Bizzell each had 1 block. Haidyn Hokit had 6 assists and Abbie Ramsey 5. Hokit and Melany Pizano had 4 digs each and Ramsey, Billingsley and Brianna Looney had 2 each.
The formidable Neches team is coming off two straight State Class A Volleyball championships and is looking to get into the Class A playoffs again this year with an eye to another state crown.
The Maidens had been 4-0 against District 21-AA teams before the Neches match and had defeated the Class A Oakwood team in their earlier meeting on Sept. 15. The loss to Neches made the Maidens 1-1 so far against Class A teams designated as a part of the district.
According to University Interscholastic League plans, the three Class A teams in the district — Neches, Oakwood and Trinidad — will be candidates for selection as winner, runner-up and third place for the Class A playoffs later this year, depending on their respective records at the end of regular season play.
The five Class AA teams in the district — Frankston, Cayuga, Grapeland, Kerens and Cross Roads — would be candidates for the Class AA playoffs, as winner, runner-up, third place and fourth place entries, depending on their respective records at regular season end.
The Maidens were scheduled to play Class AA Cross Roads in a match on Saturday, Sept. 26.
Maidens’ third set comeback seals
Kerens fate for fourth district win
The Frankston Maidens varsity Tuesday night, Sept. 22, dominated play against Kerens in the first two sets and went on to win a hotly contested third set to raise their district record to 4-0 in volleyball action at the Frankston High School gym.
The Maidens scored a decisive win 25-12 in the opening set and 25-16 in the second. However, in the third and possibly decisive set, they fell behind early and had to stage a determined comeback, finally knotting the score at 22-22. Kerens was to win one more point while the Maidens were scoring three to win the set 25-23 and the match.
It was a fitting end to the celebration of Senior Night observed between junior varsity and varsity matches. Seniors honored were Melany Pizano, Whitney Jordan, Emily Bizzell, Abbie Ramsey and Eryn Pryor.

The Frankston Maidens varsity volleyball team increased their district record to 3-0 Saturday Sept. 19, taking three sets of four in their match at Grapeland, according to a report from Coach Lisa Hokit.
The Maidens won the first set 25-12 before being edged in the second set 22-25. They then took the third set 25-16 and edged the Lady Sandies 25-23 in the final and winning set.
Among leaders, Abbie Ramsey had 7 aces, Haidyn Hokit 4, and Maggie Caveness, Eryn Pryor and Gracie Roark 3 each. Ramsey had 9 kills, Caveness 6 and Tia Billingsley and Pryor 4 each. Frankston Maidens varsity volleyball team upped their district record to 2-0 Tuesday, Sept. 15 taking three sets in their match at Oakwood, according to a report from Coach Lisa Hokit.
The Maidens won 25-12, 25-17, 25-15 in the match.
Abbie Ramsey had 7 aces and Haidyn Hokit 3. Tia Billingsley had 7 kills, Maggie Caveness 6 and Hokit and Ramsey 5 each. Ramsey had. 12 digs, Brianna Looney 8, Melany Pizano 6 and Billingsley and Hokit 5 each. Ramsey had 12 assists and Hokit 8.
Next they journeyed to Grapeland Saturday, Sept. 19 for junior varsity and varsity matches beginning at 10 a.m.
Maidens win first district match
26-24, 25-19, 25-15 at Cayuga
The Frankston Maidens varsity volleyball team got off to a good start in district play against Cayuga Friday, Sept. 11 to win their match in three sets.
After Cayuga gave the Maidens a close game in the first set the Frankston girls came away with a 26-24 win. In the second set, the Maidens won 25-19. In the final set, the Maidens won 25-15.
Abbie Ramsey had 6 service aces, Haidyn Hokit and Gracie Roark 4 each and Eryn Pryor 3. Tia Billingsley had 8 kills, Ramsey 6, Hokit 4 and Pryor 3. Ramsey and Hokit had 6 digs each, Billingsley 4 and Brianna Looney 3. Ramsey and Hokit had 11 assists each.
The Maidens varsity went to Oakwood for their second district game and then to Grapeland on Saturday, Sept.19.
Indian defense keeps score close
but early errors foil Tribe 28-15
The Frankston Indians’ defense played an outstanding game but Class AAA, Divison I Huntington took advantage of untimely Tribe mistakes to take a 28-15 win at Huntington Friday night, Sept. 11.
The Indians were able to hold the talented Huntington team to an 8-8 deadlock in the first half with the only Huntington scores coming from early errors by the Tribe, Coach Paul Gould said.
On the Indians’ first possession, the Tribe was driving inside Huntington territory at about the 40 yard line when an Indian pass was intercepted by Huntington and returned for a touchdown and a 6-0 lead.
Then on the next possession, the Indians were deep in their own territory when the snap of the ball went awry, forcing the Tribe to recover the football in their own end zone for a safety and two points for HHS. That made the score 8-0.
The Indians evened things up in the second quarter as senior quarterback Brink Bizzell ran the ball in to score from about 15 yards out and then ran for two extra points. That made it 8-8 going into halftime.
The score was to remain tight until late in the third quarter when Huntington scored on about a 30-yard run to take a 15-8 lead, after kicking the PAT.
In the fourth period, Huntington was forced to kick a field goal to boost the score to 18-8.
The Indians answered with a 60-yard pass from Bizzell to junior Cael Bruno and junior Clayton Merritt booted the PAT to narrow the score to 18-15.
Huntington then scored on a one-yard run and added an extra point to make it 25-15.
Late in the final quarter, Huntington padded their lead with a field goal to end things with a 28-15 victory.
Coach Gould had much praise for the Indian defense led by linebackers Cody Dickerson, Justin Birch and Bruno. He also praised defensive backs Merritt and Tyler Fridinger. Fridinger had an interception, he said.
The Indian head coach said the Tribe had a chance to win if they could have eliminated the mistakes.
This coming week the coaches and team will be trying to correct the errors and prepare the Tribe for the Homecoming Game, Friday, Sept. 18 against Paris Chisum, a Class AAA, Division 2 team, a change from the previous schedule.
Coach Gould said the new opponent is expected to run their offense from the Wing T formation and will feature an even front on defense. He said Chisum is “big and physical up front”.
Maidens down Westwood in final
non-district match on Sept. 4
The Frankston Maidens won over Palestine Westwood on Friday, Sept. 4 in the final non-district match of the season.
The Maidens won the first set 25-15 went on to win two more straight 25-12 and 25-18 to take the match.
The win came after a loss to Canton in three straight sets on Sept. 1, according to Coach Lisa Hokit.
The Maidens will enter district play on Friday, Sept. 11 going to Cayuga. On Sept. 15 they are scheduled to play at Oakwood. They will be back home to host Kerens on Sept. 22 after going to Grapeland on Sept. 19.
Maidens fall to tough Eustace
in volleyball action Aug. 25
The Frankston Maidens varsity volleyball team played a tough Eustace team close in two games or sets but fell 3-1 in a non-district match Tuesday, Aug. 25 at the Frankston High School gym.
The Maidens will now enjoy a bye on Friday, Aug. 28 while preparing to go to Canton and Palestine Westwood next week to close out non-district play.
In the first game or set against Eustace, the Maidens lost a heart-stopper 22-25 and lost 14-25 in the second. The Maidens bounced back to win a close one in the third, 25-23 but couldn’t hold off the Lady Bulldogs in the fourth 17-25, despite a strong effort to force a fifth round and hopefully successful comeback.
Coach Lisa Hokit cited players senior Whitney Jordan who served four aces and senior Eryn Pryor and junior Gracie Roark who led with five kills. Also senior Abbie Ramsey had 16 assists and senior Emily Bizzell and junior Maggie Caveness had one block each. On the defensive side, senior Melany Pizano and junior Tia Billingsley each had 17 digs.
Maiden varsity volleyball team
edged by Athens on Aug. 21
The Frankston Maidens varsity volleyball team won two of five games in a match with the Athens Lady Hornets but Athens won in the second, third and fifth games to take the win Friday, Aug. 21 in action at the Frankston High School gym.
Frankston won the first game 25-15 but Athens took the second 16-25 and squeaked out a win in the third 24-26. The Maidens came back 25-18 in the fourth game but Athens took the match with a 9-15 performance in the fifth.
Coach Lisa Hokit said seniors Whitney Jordan and Emily Bizzell led at the service line; senior Abbie Ramsey led in assists, and senior Melany Pizano dominated the defensive end in digs.
